Miami is on Eastern time, the same as Toronto, which makes it the easiest sun destination to reach from the city: no jet lag, a direct flight, and a car waiting on the other end. A Miami airport car service has one job at MIA, which is to get you from a very busy two-terminal airport to a hotel, a condo, a yacht or a cruise ship without a queue and without a surprise. This page explains how a pre-booked chauffeur works at MIA, how the cruise-ship and Miami Beach legs differ, what the real alternatives are and when the train or the bus is the better choice.
Miami International Airport car service from Enroutz.ca
Enroutz.ca is a Toronto-based chauffeur desk. In Miami the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur partner, while the booking, the confirmation and the invoice stay with the Toronto desk: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice and one point of contact, 24 hours a day. Trips inside the United States use US-licensed partners, because Canadian vehicles cannot do domestic point-to-point work there.
Flights from Toronto are cleared by US Customs and Border Protection before departure. The CBP Preclearance page lists Toronto Pearson and Billy Bishop among the Canadian preclearance airports and says travellers skip CBP and TSA inspection on arrival in the United States. For Miami that usually means you walk from the gate to baggage claim without a customs line. If you start in Toronto, the same desk handles the first leg; see Pearson airport limo.
What is the best way to get from Miami airport to South Beach or Brickell?

For most travellers a pre-booked chauffeur is the easiest: a fixed fare, a named driver and no taxi line. Brickell is about 11 km (7 miles) and South Beach about 16 km (10 miles) from MIA, usually 20 to 50 minutes. The lowest-cost options are the Metrorail Orange Line and, for Miami Beach, the 150 Airport Express bus.
Miami traffic is not about distance. The airport is close to everything, but I-95, the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) and the causeways to Miami Beach carry heavy weekday commuting and weekend event traffic. A 20-minute trip at 10 a.m. on a Sunday can become 50 minutes at 5 p.m. on a weekday. The driver chooses the route on live conditions.
How MIA is laid out
MIA is organised as a North Terminal and a South Terminal, with concourses lettered D to J. Customs and immigration for international arrivals is handled inside the airport, and the airport publishes maps for each. Because layouts and gate assignments change, check your boarding pass for the arrival concourse.

The airport's taxi and ride app page says taxi pickup is on the arrivals (ground) level outside the baggage claim areas, and ride app pickups are on the first level (arrivals) and the second level (departures). The page does not set out a separate area for black cars and limousines, so your Enroutz.ca confirmation names the meeting point for your arrival, and the driver messages you after you collect your bags.
Only licensed, pre-arranged vehicles may collect passengers, and uniformed airport staff are available outside baggage claim. The airport advises ignoring offers of rides from people who approach you inside the terminal. For a name-board meet-and-greet inside the arrivals hall, with an alias on the board if you prefer privacy, see meet and greet.
Distances and drive times from MIA
All distances are approximate road distances from the terminals. Times are typical ranges; traffic can change them.

| Trip | Distance | Typical drive time |
|---|---|---|
| MIA to Downtown Miami | about 10 km (6 miles) | 15–40 minutes |
| MIA to Brickell | about 11 km (7 miles) | 15–40 minutes |
| MIA to Coral Gables | about 8 km (5 miles) | 15–35 minutes |
| MIA to Wynwood and the Design District | about 12 km (7 miles) | 20–45 minutes |
| MIA to South Beach | about 16 km (10 miles) | 20–50 minutes |
| MIA to PortMiami | about 14 km (9 miles) | 20–40 minutes |
| MIA to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) | about 45 km (28 miles) | 40–80 minutes |
| MIA to Port Everglades | about 55 km (34 miles) | 45–90 minutes |
The PortMiami distance is the airport's own figure: its ground transportation page says the port is about 9 miles from MIA. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.
Cruise passengers: MIA to PortMiami and Port Everglades
Miami is one of the busiest cruise hubs in the world, and a surprising number of our bookings are cruise connections. The airport's ground transportation page says that most cruise lines offer shuttle service to the port and lists pre-arranged cruise line transportation from the North bus station (Concourse D, Level 1, Door 1) and the South bus station (Concourse J, Level 1, Door 33).

A private car is a different proposition. You leave from the arrivals door with your luggage and are on the way within minutes, rather than waiting for a coach to fill. The port's official site notes that PortMiami has parking at each cruise terminal and a dedicated toll-free tunnel connecting to the major highways, which keeps the final approach quick. For the cruise-port details see Miami cruise port and, for Fort Lauderdale departures, Port Everglades. The page on Port Canaveral covers the Orlando-side cruise departures.
A good tip for cruise days: do not book the earliest flight and the latest embarkation. Land at least 3 hours before the ship's all-aboard time, and give the car a quiet buffer. If your flight is delayed, the driver tracks it and holds the car for free for the waiting period.

According to the airport's public transportation page, the Metrorail Orange Line connects to MIA through a short MIA Mover ride from the terminal, and riders need an EASY Card from the vending machines at the Miami Intermodal Center. The same page says the Route 150 Miami Beach Airport Express between the MIA Metrorail station and Miami Beach runs every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. to 11:40 p.m. every day, with a fare of $2.25 each way as of 2026. The MIA Mover also links to Miami Central Station for Tri-Rail, and the airport notes that Brightline runs from MiamiCentral to West Palm Beach and offers shuttles to MIA.
These are real, low-cost options and we will say so plainly. If you are travelling light to a Metrorail-adjacent address, the train makes sense. The car wins for families, for anyone with large bags, for arrivals after 11 p.m. when the bus has stopped and for Miami Beach hotels that sit well away from the bus route.
Miami Beach, the causeways and the hotels
Miami Beach is an island, and it is reached by a handful of causeways: the MacArthur Causeway to South Beach, the Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195) to mid-beach and the Venetian Causeway for local traffic. When a bridge or causeway has an incident, the driver changes the route. The mid-beach and north-beach hotels on Collins Avenue, such as the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, are a longer drive than South Beach, usually 25 to 55 minutes from MIA.
The busiest period for hotel traffic is the winter season, and the heaviest week of all is Art Basel; see Art Basel Miami Beach for what to expect. It is usually held in December, and the desk plans longer pickup lead times that week. Other busy periods are the large boat and music events, and cruise embarkation days, usually at weekends.
Brickell, Downtown and the business district
Brickell is Miami's financial district, a dense cluster of towers, hotels and restaurants. Downtown is the cultural and port-adjacent core. The Design District and Wynwood are galleries and creative offices north of downtown. Coral Gables, to the south-west, is a leafy business district with hotels and the University of Miami nearby. Our chauffeurs handle all of them and know which hotel entrances are best for drop-offs. For an hourly arrangement during a day of meetings, see hourly chauffeur. City information is on the Miami car service page.

The FLL alternative
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) is about 45 km (28 miles) north of MIA and is often cheaper to fly into. If your Miami destination is in the north of Miami-Dade or Broward, FLL can be the better airport. If you are staying in Miami Beach, Brickell or Coral Gables, MIA is closer. The booker accepts either airport, and the desk will tell you which is the better fit if you ask. The Brightline station in Fort Lauderdale also connects to MiamiCentral by rail.
Private aviation and yachts
Some of our Miami clients arrive by private jet. The Miami Opa-locka private aviation page describes transfers from the executive airport. For marina pickups, tell the desk the dock and slip. See also the private aviation hub.
Waiting time and cancellations
Free waiting is 60 minutes after an international landing and 30 minutes after a domestic landing. More than 72 hours' notice means no charge; at 72 hours or less the fee is 10%; at 48 hours or less, 50%; at 24 hours or less or on a no-show, 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. Large events can carry a different deadline, stated on the confirmation.
Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request. Enroutz.ca is a chauffeur service, not a security company: no armed drivers and no bodyguards. For more locations, see the airports hub, the USA hub and Orlando MCO.
