What is a private tour with a driver from Toronto?

A private tour with a driver is a day or half-day itinerary in a chauffeured vehicle, built around your interests and pace instead of a coach schedule. From Toronto it usually means Niagara Falls, Niagara wine country, Muskoka or a city circuit. Enroutz.ca confirms a fixed fare before you pay.

Most visitors to Toronto want to see Niagara Falls, and many want a taste of Ontario beyond the city. A scheduled coach tour is the usual answer: it is predictable, social and inexpensive. A private tour with a driver is the alternative for people who want to start when they like, stop where they like, travel in a small group and keep their luggage, children or mobility needs in mind.

This page sets out what a chauffeured tour is and is not, lists realistic itineraries with distances and drive times, explains what is open and when, and says plainly where a group coach or the local train is the better choice. It is written for visitors from the USA, Europe and the Middle East, and for Toronto residents with guests.

What a chauffeured tour is, and what it is not

A chauffeured tour gives you a vehicle, a professional driver and a plan. It does not give you a licensed historian or a ticketed guided experience.

Black leather rear seats of a luxury car
Black leather rear seats of a luxury car
  • What it is. A private vehicle for your party only: Executive Sedan, First Class Sedan, Luxury SUV or Executive Sprinter, with flexible timing and stops. The chauffeur knows the routes, the car parks and the best moments to arrive.
  • What it is not. The chauffeur is a professional driver, not an accredited tour guide. Attractions provide their own guided experiences, and tickets, tastings and boat rides are arranged directly with the attraction or the winery.
  • What it saves. Time at the start and end of the day, queues for the car park, the decision about when to leave, and the stress of driving unfamiliar highways.

If you want commentary, the usual solution is to book a guided element at the attraction and let the chauffeur handle the rest. If you want a flexible day with a driver on call, the hourly chauffeur structure explains how hours are counted.

Niagara Falls private tour from Toronto

Niagara Falls is about 130 km from Toronto, and the drive is usually 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the day. Summer weekend afternoons are the slowest; early starts and midweek trips are the quickest. The route runs along the QEW.

A typical full-day plan:

  1. Depart Toronto or Pearson. Pickup at your hotel or the airport, with flight tracking if you are arriving the same morning.
  2. Arrive in Niagara Falls. A first look at the falls from the Canadian side, before the attractions get busy.
  3. Choose your experiences. The Niagara Parks site lists the main attractions, including Journey Behind the Falls, the White Water Walk, the Butterfly Conservatory and the Floral Showhouse. Niagara City Cruises runs the boat tour on a seasonal schedule that can shift with ice on the river, so check the operator before an early-spring trip.
  4. Lunch and wandering. The chauffeur parks and waits.
  5. Evening. Niagara Parks describes the falls as lit every evening in Queen Victoria Park, a year-round event, which is a reason to stay after dark.
  6. Return to Toronto. About 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the evening.

Niagara Parks also lists newer attractions, including Niagara Takes Flight and The Tunnel at the Niagara Parks Power Station. Opening hours and tickets are on the Niagara Parks site; check it before you finalise the day.

For the city itself and the casinos, wineries and the US crossing, see our Niagara Falls car service page. If you want to see the falls from the American side, the crossing needs passports and time; the cross-border page explains how.

Wine country: the Niagara Escarpment and Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara's wineries divide into two regional appellations. The Niagara Escarpment covers the benchlands along the escarpment, with the Short Hills Bench, Twenty Mile Bench and Beamsville Bench. Niagara-on-the-Lake lies below the escarpment towards the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, and includes sub-appellations such as Niagara River, Niagara Lakeshore, Four Mile Creek and St. David's Bench.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is around 130 km from Toronto, a similar drive to the falls, and the two are close enough to combine in one day.

A wine day with a driver works because the person who tastes does not drive. A few practical points:

  • Book tastings directly with the wineries, and ask whether reservations are required.
  • Allow two to three tastings in a day, not five. The best wineries are not always close together.
  • We never promise drinks on board, and local law applies to alcohol in any vehicle. Many visitors ship purchases home or have them held at the winery.
  • Tell the chauffeur what you like, and the day can be built around red or white, large estates or small producers.

A wine day pairs well with an afternoon at the falls: wine in the morning, the falls and an early dinner, then back to Toronto. See private driver Toronto for the day-to-day, as-directed style of service.

Toronto city tour by car

For a first visit, a half-day circuit of the downtown core is a useful orientation. The CN Tower is the usual anchor. The tower's own site describes the Top, 33 storeys higher than the main observation level, and EdgeWalk, a hands-free walk around the main pod 116 storeys above the ground. The 360 Restaurant takes reservations separately. Opening hours change, so confirm on the CN Tower site on the day.

A half-day plan typically combines:

  • The tower and the waterfront.
  • A drive through the main districts, including the financial core, Yorkville and the entertainment district.
  • A museum, market or neighbourhood of your choice.
  • A drop-off at your hotel or the airport.

For ideas about what to see, our attractions hub lists the top attractions in Toronto and Ontario with distances and times from downtown and Pearson. If you have only a few hours between flights, a short city circuit can be built around a long layover, and the Toronto airport transfer guide covers arrival logistics.

Muskoka lakes day trip

Muskoka begins about 160 km north of Toronto, at Gravenhurst, and reaches Huntsville at roughly 210 km. The drive takes 2 to 3.5 hours via Highway 400 and Highway 11, depending on the destination and the day.

A Muskoka day suits families and groups who want lakes, boats and small towns. It is a long day if done in one go, with 4 to 7 hours of driving there and back. For a more relaxed plan, consider an overnight stay and treat the tour as a transfer plus local sightseeing. Summer Fridays and Sunday evenings are the heaviest on the highways. See the Muskoka car service page for resorts and timing.

Stratford, Kingston and longer routes

Two longer days are popular with visitors who have already seen Niagara.

Stratford. The Stratford Festival runs in Stratford, Ontario, at 55 Queen Street, and is a destination for theatre lovers, about 150 km west of Toronto. The festival's site lists the current productions, and the 2027 season has been announced, with ticket sales opening on 25 October for members and 16 November for all patrons. A theatre trip works best as an afternoon matinee with the chauffeur waiting, or an evening performance with a late return.

Kingston and the Thousand Islands. Kingston is about 260 km from Toronto, roughly 2.75 hours each way, and sits at the gateway to the Thousand Islands. This is a long day by car and a good overnight; the VIA Rail alternative takes about the same time. See city-to-city car service for the long-distance side.

If you are travelling alone and want a social day with commentary, a coach tour is the right choice. If you are travelling with children, luggage, a mobility need, or you value your own pace, a chauffeur is worth considering. We will tell you honestly which suits your day.

Which vehicle for which party

  • Couples and small groups of up to three: Executive Sedan or First Class Sedan. Up to three passengers with two large and two cabin bags.
  • Families and groups of up to six: Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali or similar), with room for 5 to 6 large bags and a day's supplies.
  • Larger parties of up to 12: Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter) with 12 bags. See group transportation.
  • Special arrival: Maybach, Rolls-Royce or a stretch limousine on request, availability confirmed at booking.

Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking. Wi-Fi, water and phone chargers are in most vehicles, which helps on long drives.

See the fleet page for capacities. Every class is "or similar", and the exact model is confirmed at booking.

Planning your tour day

A good tour is planned backwards from the thing you cannot miss.

  1. Pick the anchor. A boat ride with a fixed sailing time, a winery reservation, a theatre curtain or a flight home.
  2. Fix the start. Leave early for Niagara, especially in summer. An early start is the usual way to stay ahead of the heaviest traffic.
  3. Add a buffer. Weekend traffic on the QEW and Highway 400 can add significantly to the drive.
  4. Check opening times. Attractions change hours by season; confirm on the official sites.
  5. Bring documents. If you plan to cross into the United States, every traveller needs valid travel documents.
  6. Tell us the extras. Child seats, mobility needs, luggage and any dietary or pacing requirements.

Arriving from abroad? The travelling to Toronto guide covers entry documents and arrival, and the Ontario page places the day trips in the wider province.

Reserve your chauffeur

Booking and cancellation

On the booker, enter your pickup, the destination for your first stop, the date and time. For a multi-stop itinerary, use the notes or contact the desk, which builds the plan and confirms a fixed quote. Standard free waiting on non-airport pickups is 15 minutes, so extended waiting during attractions is planned into the booking.

Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup time: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%. Large events may carry a different deadline, stated on the confirmation.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Niagara Falls from Toronto?

About 130 km, which takes 1.5 to 2 hours by road depending on the day. Summer weekend afternoons are slower. The booker shows the fixed fare for your pickup and vehicle before you pay.

Is a private Niagara Falls tour from Toronto worth it?

For families, small groups, travellers with luggage or those who want their own pace, yes. For a solo traveller who wants commentary and company, a coach tour is the better choice. We will say so.

Will my driver also be my tour guide?

Your chauffeur is a professional driver who knows the routes, not an accredited tour guide. Guided experiences are provided by the attractions themselves and are arranged directly with them.

Can you take me to wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake?

Yes. The town is around 130 km from Toronto. Book tastings directly with the wineries, and the chauffeur drives so that you do not. We never promise drinks on board, and local law applies.

Can we combine the falls and the wine country in one day?

Yes, they are close together. Plan the winery tasting for the morning or midday and the falls for the afternoon and evening, when Niagara Parks lights the falls. Allow for the return drive of 1.5 to 2 hours.

Can you do a day trip to Muskoka?

Yes. Muskoka starts about 160 km north of Toronto and reaches Huntsville at roughly 210 km, 2 to 3.5 hours each way. It is a long day, so many visitors treat it as an overnight stay.

Can I take children on a private tour?

Yes. Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking. Tell us the ages so we can plan the pace and the stops.

Do you pick up from Pearson Airport for a tour?

Yes. Airport pickups include flight tracking and free waiting of 60 minutes after landing on international arrivals and 30 minutes on domestic. A name-board meet and greet is available as an add-on.

Do you provide attraction tickets?

No. Tickets for attractions, boat rides and tastings are arranged directly with the attraction or the winery. We provide the vehicle, the chauffeur and the plan.
