How does a black car service from JFK work?
You book a JFK car service with your airline and flight number. A US-licensed chauffeur partner tracks the landing, waits the free window, and drives you about 25 km (15 miles) to Manhattan, typically 45 to 90 minutes depending on the hour. The booker shows the exact fare before you pay.
John F. Kennedy International Airport is one of the busiest gateways in North America, and it is in the middle of the largest rebuild in its history. Terminals are being demolished and replaced while the airport keeps operating, airlines are moving between buildings, and the roads around the terminals change. A black car service JFK booking turns that complexity into a single confirmation with a named terminal and a driver who knows the current layout.
Enroutz.ca is a chauffeur service run from a Toronto desk. In New York the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured US-licensed chauffeur partner, because Canadian vehicles cannot do domestic point-to-point work inside the USA. The booking, confirmation, invoice and 24/7 contact stay with Enroutz.ca. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach vehicles no more than seven.
JFK terminals in 2026: what to check before you land
JFK's own terminal page lists Terminals 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8 and shows airlines for each (the lists are partial). At the time of writing it showed, for example, Air France, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss and Korean Air in Terminal 1; Delta, Avianca, Virgin Atlantic, Emirates and LATAM in Terminal 4; JetBlue in Terminal 5; Frontier, Aer Lingus, All Nippon, Air Canada and Norse in Terminal 7; and American Airlines, British Airways, Alaska Airlines, Qatar and Iberia in Terminal 8. The current list is on the JFK terminals page.

The Port Authority's redevelopment page says that the New Terminal One, with 23 gates, and the new Terminal 6, which replaces the former Terminal 6 and Terminal 7 sites, are under construction and that the first gates of the new terminals are scheduled to open in 2026. You can read the plan on the Port Authority JFK redevelopment page. We could not confirm from official pages that either new terminal had opened to passengers when we checked, so treat the airline lists above as a guide only.
What this means for you:
- Your airline may change terminals between booking and travel as carriers move to the new buildings.
- Your terminal is confirmed by the desk using your airline and flight number, and it appears on your confirmation.
- Check your ticket or the airline app on the day, and tell the desk if anything differs.
Pickup at JFK during construction
The Port Authority's alerts page warns of delays and reroutes from construction on the airport roadway network, and directs motorists to a free drop-off and pick-up lot at the AirTrain JFK Lefferts Boulevard station as an alternative to the terminal curbs, with a free AirTrain connection of about eight minutes. See JFK alerts and advisories for the latest. The airport's transportation page adds that you should use only authorized shuttle, van or private car services and never accept a ride from a driver who approaches you unprompted.

Our approach follows from that. Your confirmation gives the meeting point for your flight and terminal, and the driver messages you after you land. If you want a person in the arrivals hall holding a name board, add the meet and greet service; an alias can be used instead of your own name. Allow extra time on departures, because the roadways around the terminals are slower than they used to be.
JFK to Manhattan: about 25 km (15 miles)
Midtown Manhattan is about 25 km (15 miles) from JFK. In theory that is a 40-minute drive. In practice it is anything from 45 minutes late at night to well over 90 minutes on a weekday afternoon. The main road is the Van Wyck Expressway (I-678), which leads north from the airport towards the Long Island Expressway and the crossings into Manhattan. It is the road people mean when they say JFK traffic, and it is the reason the arrival time on your flight tells you less about when you reach your hotel than the hour of day does.

Typical destinations:
- Midtown and Times Square, with the major hotels and the Port Authority bus terminal.
- Lower Manhattan and the Financial District.
- Brooklyn and Queens, which can be much closer than Manhattan.
- Westchester, Connecticut and northern New Jersey, which are longer trips. For private aviation arrivals there, see Westchester (HPN) and Teterboro (TEB).
The booker quotes a fixed fare for your exact addresses, so the traffic on the Van Wyck is the chauffeur's problem and not an item on your invoice.
Your options from JFK, compared

| Option | Typical time to Midtown | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| AirTrain JFK plus subway or LIRR | About an hour with transfers | Lowest | One traveller, light luggage, daytime arrival |
| Yellow taxi at the terminal | 45 to 90 minutes | Metered | No booking, no luggage worries |
| Ride-app car (Ride App Pick-Up areas) | 45 to 90 minutes | Surge-priced at peak | Short notice, mobile data available |
| Prearranged shuttle or van | 60 to 120 minutes with stops | Low to moderate | Solo travellers who accept shared rides |
| Private chauffeur (Enroutz.ca) | 45 to 90 minutes | Fixed fare via booker | Families, executives, groups, late arrivals, heavy luggage |
The airport itself recommends mass transit during construction, and says LIRR trains run about every 20 minutes between Grand Central Terminal or Penn Station and the AirTrain JFK station at Jamaica. For a single traveller with light bags and no deadline, that is the lowest-cost and often the most predictable way into the city, and it avoids the Van Wyck altogether. A chauffeur is the better choice when you arrive late, bring family or equipment, or need to reach a meeting on time. The chauffeur vs rideshare guide gives the full comparison.
Waiting time and flight tracking
JFK is mostly an international airport, so the long window matters. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, and domestic arrivals include 30 minutes. Flight tracking is standard on every airport pickup, so a delayed aircraft does not need a phone call. For non-airport pickups, 15 minutes of free waiting are included.
Immigration at JFK can take a long time at peak hours. The 60-minute window is designed for that, and the driver will not leave.
Departing from JFK: choosing the pickup time
Working back from a flight is where New York punishes optimism. Airlines advise arriving at least three hours before an international departure and two hours before a domestic one, and with construction on the airport roads the time between leaving the kerb at your hotel and reaching the terminal can be longer than it looks on a map. The desk proposes a pickup time when you book, using your terminal, your flight and the day of the week.
Three habits keep a departure calm:
- Leave earlier on Friday afternoons and on the evenings before holiday weekends. The Van Wyck is at its slowest then, and a pickup time that works on a Tuesday does not work on a Friday.
- Tell the desk your terminal as soon as you know it. If your airline moves between buildings after you book, send a message so the chauffeur goes to the right place.
- Be at the door at the agreed time. Pickups other than airport arrivals include 15 minutes of free waiting.
What a first-time visitor should know
New York arrivals reward a little preparation. Keep your passport and any customs forms accessible, expect a queue at immigration, and do not accept a ride from anyone who approaches you inside the terminal, because the airport itself warns against unsolicited drivers. A pre-booked chauffeur is the opposite: the name, the vehicle and the fare are on your confirmation before you leave home.
If you are travelling from Canada, check documents before you leave. For Canadian citizens at land borders, the accepted documents include a passport, an Enhanced Driver's License or a NEXUS card; at airports, a passport is the norm. Visitors from other countries should check US entry requirements for their nationality with the relevant US government source before travelling.
Late-night and early-morning arrivals
JFK handles a stream of overnight arrivals from Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and the first wave of morning flights from Europe lands before many New York streets are busy. The road is quicker then, and a chauffeur is often the only option that is simple at that hour. Rideshare supply and taxi lines vary a lot through the night, and a confirmed booking with flight tracking is the more predictable way to reach a hotel check-in that may not open until the afternoon. Ask the hotel about early check-in or luggage storage, and tell the desk if you will be going straight to a meeting.
Flying to JFK from Toronto, Europe and the Middle East
From Toronto the choices are to fly or to drive. The drive to Manhattan is roughly 800 km (500 miles) and takes most of a day, including the border. A cross-border Toronto-to-New York trip runs from Toronto with one confirmation and one invoice, and it works well for a group or a family that wants to arrive with luggage and avoid two airports. Air Canada is listed in Terminal 7 on the airport's page today, so if you fly, confirm your terminal before you travel.
From Europe and the Middle East, many travellers connect through New York on the way to Toronto. You can book a JFK arrival chauffeur and a Toronto pickup at the other end through the same desk. The New York car service page covers rides within the city, and the USA hub lists every US city we serve.
Vehicles for JFK transfers
All classes are confirmed "or similar" at booking.
- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6 or Lyriq): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali): up to 6 passengers and 5 to 6 large bags. The usual choice for a family arriving after a long haul.

- Mini-coach and coach: 20 to 56 seats on request.
Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine and armoured vehicles are available on request, with availability confirmed at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats can be requested at booking, and most vehicles carry Wi-Fi, water and phone chargers. See the fleet.
Hotels, stations and other New York airports
A JFK arrival often ends at a hotel such as The Plaza, or at Penn Station for a train south. Cruise passengers arriving for a sailing should see the New York cruise port page. If your flight lands at another New York-area airport, the pages for Newark (EWR) and LaGuardia (LGA) explain how those arrivals work. The airports hub lists them all.
Corporate accounts and discretion
New York is a city of meetings, and a corporate account gives monthly invoicing, one point of contact and the same standard in every city. See corporate chauffeur service. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and a non-disclosure agreement can be signed on request. We are a chauffeur service, not a security company: we do not provide armed drivers or bodyguards, though we work alongside a client's own security team.

Frequently asked questions
How far is JFK from Manhattan?
About 25 km (15 miles) to Midtown. The drive takes 45 minutes late at night and can exceed 90 minutes on a weekday afternoon, mainly because of traffic on the Van Wyck Expressway. The booker shows a fixed fare for your exact address.
Which JFK terminal will my airline use?
JFK's terminal page lists Terminals 1, 4, 5, 7 and 8 today, and the Port Authority says the first gates of the new terminals are scheduled to open in 2026. Airlines are moving as that happens. We confirm your terminal using your airline and flight number, and it is on your confirmation.
Where will my driver meet me?
Your confirmation names the meeting point for your terminal, and the driver messages you after you land. Because of construction, the airport suggests allowing extra time at the curbs. A name-board meet-and-greet inside arrivals is available as an add-on.
Is the AirTrain and train a better choice than a car?
For one traveller with light bags it can be. The airport recommends mass transit during construction. A chauffeur is better for families, groups, late arrivals and anyone who must reach an appointment on time.
What if my flight is delayed?
We track every flight and the chauffeur adjusts to the real landing time. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting and domestic arrivals include 30 minutes.
Can you drive me from Toronto to New York?
Yes. A cross-border trip from Toronto to Manhattan is roughly 800 km (500 miles) and takes most of a day with the border. It runs from Toronto with a single confirmation and invoice.
Do you provide child seats?
Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking. Give the child's age and weight.
What is your cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10%. 48 hours or less: 50%. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. Large events and conventions may carry a different deadline.
