Atlanta's airport has a Domestic Terminal and a separate International Terminal. Those times are wide because Atlanta's traffic is not evenly distributed. The southbound run to the airport on a Friday afternoon and the northbound run out of it on a weekday around 5 pm are the slowest windows. Landing at 10 pm and driving to Buckhead is a different experience, and on a Sunday morning the same drive can be easy. MARTA, taxi, rideshare or chauffeur?

Atlanta is one of the few big US cities where the train from the airport is a serious option.

MARTA's page says the Red and Gold lines run directly to the Airport Station and that trains operate from 4:45 AM to 1 AM on weekdays and from 6 AM to 1 AM on weekends. After 8:30 PM, travellers heading to Buckhead, the Medical Center, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs or North Springs may need to change at Lindbergh Center. In plain terms, if your hotel is next to a station and you land at lunchtime with one bag, the train is the better value and avoids road traffic completely. Buckhead, Midtown and downtown: choosing where to stay and how to move

Atlanta is a collection of districts, each with a different character:

• Buckhead is the northern business and shopping district, with upscale hotels and restaurants. It is also the farthest of the three from the airport.
• Midtown sits between Buckhead and downtown, with arts venues, offices and a good run of hotels. It is the most balanced base for a mixed business and leisure trip.
