The hardest part of arriving in a new country is usually the first hour. You are tired, the phone has no signal, the paperwork is in a bag somewhere, and a stranger at a counter wants to know where you are staying. A Toronto airport transfer that is booked in advance removes the uncertainty after the border. This page also covers the part before it, because the right documents and a basic sense of the arrivals sequence make the border hall far less stressful.
It is written for visitors flying into Toronto from the United States, from the United Kingdom and continental Europe, and from the Gulf. If you live in Toronto and are returning from abroad, most of the same logistics apply.
Toronto airport transfer: what happens when you land?
Most international visitors land at Toronto Pearson, 27 km from Union Station. You clear the border at kiosks or eGates, collect bags, and meet a pre-booked chauffeur at the designated pickup point or, with meet-and-greet, inside arrivals. International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, and the fare is fixed in advance.
The whole sequence from touchdown to the car typically takes one to two hours, but it varies with the number of flights landing together, the time of day and the queue at the border. Your chauffeur tracks the flight, so the booking is built around your real arrival rather than the scheduled one.
Before you fly: entry documents for Canada
Check your entry requirements before you buy the ticket, not after. The Government of Canada decides who needs what, and the rules depend on your passport.

- US citizens are exempt from the eTA and must carry proper identification, such as a valid US passport, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). US lawful permanent residents are also exempt and should carry a valid passport from their country of nationality plus proof of status such as a green card.
- Visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to Canada need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). The IRCC page on how to apply for an eTA says the fee is CAN$7 as of 2026, that most applications are approved within minutes, and that, if more documents are needed, instructions arrive by email within 72 hours. Apply well before you fly rather than at the airport.
- Travellers from visa-required countries need a visitor visa, or in some cases may apply for an eTA instead. IRCC states that you need either a visitor visa or an eTA, never both.
- Dual Canadian citizens must travel with a valid Canadian passport, according to IRCC.
An eTA does not guarantee entry. A border services officer makes the final decision on arrival, and the usual basics apply: a valid travel document, enough funds for your stay and a clear purpose. Citizens of European countries, the United Kingdom and many other states are visa-exempt and need an eTA to fly. For Gulf nationals the answer depends on the passport, so use IRCC's online tools to check before booking. Destination Toronto's getting here guide adds that children aged 15 and under must show proof of citizenship, such as a certified birth certificate.

The border hall at Pearson: kiosks, eGates and Advance Declaration
When you arrive on an international flight at Pearson, everyone must confirm their identity and submit a customs declaration. The airport has automated the process, so you use a primary inspection kiosk or an eGate. In outline, you scan your travel document, have your photo taken, answer a few questions and receive a receipt, which you show to a border officer. Travellers with certain documents, unaccompanied children and others who need special help are directed to an officer for in-person processing, according to Pearson's customs and immigration guidance.

You can save time with the Advance Declaration feature in the ArriveCAN app. The Canada Border Services Agency says you can submit your customs and immigration declaration up to 72 hours before your flight, that the feature is available at Toronto Pearson Terminals 1 and 3, and that it cannot be used with NEXUS kiosks. Do it on hotel Wi-Fi the day before you fly, not in the aircraft aisle.
After the kiosk you collect your baggage and pass a final checkpoint, where an officer takes the receipt. You then enter the public arrivals hall.
Where your chauffeur meets you at Toronto Pearson
Pearson has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, and your airline decides which you use. The airport's pre-arranged services page lists Door A at both terminals for pre-arranged taxis and limos, and Pearson states elsewhere that licensed taxis and limos do not pick up passengers inside the terminals. Your booking confirmation names the current meeting point for your terminal.

If you want a person waiting in the hall, add the name-board meet-and-greet. The chauffeur holds a board with your name, or an alias for privacy, helps with luggage and walks you to the vehicle. For tired first-time visitors, this is the most reassuring option. The meet-and-greet service page explains it fully, and the Pearson airport limo guide covers the doors in detail.
Your flight is tracked, and the free waiting window after an international landing is 60 minutes. If something delays you at the border, tell the desk once you are through and the chauffeur is ready.
Flying in from the USA
Flights from the United States are the shortest, and they land at the same two terminals. US citizens need only a valid passport, as noted above, and border processing follows the same sequence as for any international arrival. Allow time between landing and the car, because US flights often arrive in waves.

For the return, Pearson offers US border preclearance for most US-bound flights, which means you clear US customs and immigration before you board in Toronto. Allow extra time at the airport for that step. The same chauffeur can take you to Pearson, and the desk can advise on timing.
If you are crossing to or from the USA by road rather than by air, see the cross-border car service page and the Buffalo airport page. Many US visitors also combine Toronto with Niagara Falls, about 130 km from Toronto by road and usually 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours; see the Niagara Falls car service page. Browse the wider USA hub if your trip continues across the border.
Flying in from the UK and Europe
Overnight flights from London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and other European cities often land in the morning or early afternoon, when Toronto's rush hour and the airport's arrival waves overlap. Toronto runs five hours behind the UK and six behind continental Europe for most of the year, although the gap shifts for a few weeks in spring and autumn because countries change their clocks on different dates.
Plan for a short first day. A chauffeur transfer to a hotel in the downtown core takes about 30 to 50 minutes for the 27 km from Pearson, and most hotels will hold your luggage if the room is not ready. A hotel near Union Station can be reached in the same journey. The Europe hub lists our European cities if your trip continues across the Atlantic, with London and Paris among the most requested.
Flying in from the Gulf and the Middle East
Flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and other Gulf hubs usually arrive in the afternoon or evening after a long journey. Families and business travellers on these routes often carry more luggage than average, so many guests choose the Luxury SUV (up to 6 passengers, 5 to 6 large bags) or the Executive Sprinter (up to 12 passengers, 12 bags).
The clock difference is about eight to nine hours depending on daylight saving, so a guest arriving at 6 pm in Toronto will feel closer to 3 am. Plan the first evening for rest rather than a long dinner. Check your entry requirements using IRCC tools well in advance, because the answer depends on your passport. The Middle East hub lists the Gulf cities we serve, including Dubai, for the journey home.
First-night practicalities: money, phones and power
A few small points make the first evening easier.
- Money. Canada uses the Canadian dollar. Cards, including contactless, are accepted nearly everywhere in Toronto, so large amounts of cash are rarely necessary. Tipping is customary but not legally required: roughly 15 to 20 per cent at restaurants is typical, and for taxis and chauffeurs a smaller discretionary amount is usual.
- Phones. Check roaming terms with your home carrier before you fly. Most Enroutz.ca vehicles have Wi-Fi, and hotels provide it, so you can connect your phone for navigation and messages after you leave the airport.
- Power. Canada uses 120 volt sockets with flat pins, so UK, European and Gulf visitors need a plug adapter and should check that their charger accepts 120 volts. Most vehicles carry phone chargers.
- Driving side. Traffic drives on the right, and distances and speeds are in kilometres.
- Time. Toronto is on Eastern Time, which changes with daylight saving in the same way as most of North America.
Hotels by district: where to send your chauffeur
The right district depends on your purpose, and a booking works best when the hotel address is exact.
| District | Typical hotels | Why choose it | Drive from Pearson |
|---|---|---|---|
| Financial District and Union Station | Fairmont Royal York, InterContinental Toronto Centre | Meetings, conventions, trains | About 27 km, 30 to 50 minutes |
| University Avenue and Entertainment District | Shangri-La Toronto, Ritz-Carlton Toronto | Theatres, restaurants, business | About 27 km, 30 to 50 minutes |
| Yorkville | Four Seasons Toronto, Park Hyatt Toronto | Shopping, galleries, boutique stays | About 30 km, 35 to 55 minutes |
| Waterfront | Westin Harbour Castle | Lake views, Billy Bishop, ferries | About 28 km, 30 to 50 minutes |
| Airport strip | Pearson airport hotels | Early flights, short layovers | A few kilometres, 5 to 15 minutes |
The full list is on the hotels hub. Yorkville and waterfront times are approximate and depend on the hour; the booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.
Airport transfer or train? An honest comparison
Toronto's airport rail link is a good one, and it will suit some visitors better than a car.
| Option | Time | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| UP Express train | About 25 to 30 minutes to Union Station | Lowest | Light bags, hotel near Union Station, rush hour |
| Airport taxi | 30 to 50 minutes | Flat rates to Toronto destinations | Arrivals with no booking |
| Rideshare | 30 to 50 minutes | Surge-priced at peaks | Flexible plans, light luggage |
| Hotel shuttle | Varies | Often free | Airport-strip hotels |
| Private chauffeur | 30 to 50 minutes | Fixed fare via booker | Jet lag, luggage, children, late arrivals, any hotel address |
The UP Express advertises a journey of 28 minutes from Pearson to Union Station and runs about every 15 minutes according to Destination Toronto. If your bags are light and your hotel is near Union Station, it is hard to beat. A chauffeur is the better choice when the hotel is elsewhere, when you land after a long flight, or when you travel with children or several cases. See chauffeur versus rideshare for more.
Leaving Toronto: the departure transfer
For the return trip, book a pickup time that allows for the airline's check-in advice and, for US-bound flights, preclearance. Winter weather and rush-hour traffic on the Gardiner Expressway and Highway 427 can lengthen the 27 km drive, so the chauffeur plans the timing with you. If your onward journey is to New York, London or Dubai, the same desk can arrange the car at the other end.
Outside Toronto, the GTA and Ontario, rides are delivered by vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur partners, and booked, confirmed and invoiced by Enroutz.ca: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice and one contact around the clock. See the worldwide chauffeur network and the airports hub.
Which other Toronto airports can I use?
Pearson is the main gateway, but the region has others. The airport limo Toronto guide compares Billy Bishop, Hamilton, Waterloo and Buffalo, and the Billy Bishop page explains the island airport. Business-jet passengers should read the private aviation hub.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an eTA to fly to Toronto?
If you hold a passport from a visa-exempt country other than the United States, you generally need an eTA to fly to Canada. US citizens are exempt and need a valid passport. Check the Government of Canada's current rules before booking, because requirements depend on your nationality.
How much does a Toronto airport transfer cost?
Enroutz.ca does not publish fares. The booker shows the exact all-in fare for your hotel address and vehicle before you pay. The trip from Pearson to Union Station is about 27 km, and the fare is fixed whatever the traffic.
Will the chauffeur wait if customs takes a long time?
Yes. The chauffeur tracks your flight and waits up to 60 minutes after an international landing at no charge. If you are delayed beyond that, let the desk know and it will keep the booking in place.
Where do I find my driver at Toronto Pearson?
Pearson lists Door A for pre-arranged limos at both terminals, and your confirmation states the meeting point. With the meet-and-greet add-on, the chauffeur waits inside arrivals with a name board.
How long is the drive from Pearson to downtown Toronto?
About 27 km, usually 30 to 50 minutes depending on the hour and traffic. The UP Express train takes about 25 to 30 minutes to Union Station if your hotel is close to it.
Can I bring child seats?
Seats for children, toddlers and booster-age passengers can be requested at booking. State the ages of the children so the right seat is ready.
What happens if my flight is cancelled?
Tell the desk as soon as you know. Cancellation terms are measured from the scheduled pickup time: more than 72 hours' notice, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10%; 48 hours or less, 50%; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100%. Large events may carry a different deadline.
Can I book the return transfer at the same time?
Yes. Enter the departure date and flight in the booker, and add onward airport transfers in other cities if you need them. The desk confirms a fixed quote for each.
