Chauffeur service London for travellers arriving from Toronto and North America

London is the destination our Toronto desk is asked about most often by Canadian business travellers, and the questions are always practical. Which Heathrow terminal, where does the driver actually stand, will the car be inside the congestion zone, and what happens if the flight lands an hour early? This page answers those questions for a chauffeur service in London, and it explains how Enroutz.ca keeps the whole trip under one booking.

The short version: a chauffeur service in London from Enroutz.ca is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured London private hire partner, and it is booked, confirmed and invoiced by the Enroutz.ca desk in Toronto. You deal with one team from the first quote to the final invoice. We do not own vehicles or offices in the United Kingdom, and we say so plainly.

What does a private chauffeur in London involve?

Black leather rear seats of a luxury car
Black leather rear seats of a luxury car

A private chauffeur in London is a licensed, pre-booked driver in a late-model sedan, SUV or van who tracks your flight, meets you on arrival and drives you door to door for a fare agreed in advance. The Enroutz.ca desk books, confirms and invoices it from Toronto.

In practice that means four things. Your driver monitors the flight, so a delayed or early arrival does not cost you a second booking. The vehicle is a recent model, no more than four years old (Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach up to seven), which also keeps it inside London's emission rules. The fare is fixed and quoted before you pay, so there is no meter running in traffic on the A4 or the Embankment. And there is a 24-hour desk, so a change of plan at 2 am Toronto time still reaches a person.

London private hire is a regulated trade. Transport for London licenses the vehicle, the driver and the operator, and the booking must be made through a licensed operator, which is exactly the role our partner fills. That is the main reason a chauffeur service in London is more formal than hailing a car on the street.

How the booking works from Canada

Enter your pickup in the Enroutz.ca booker, choose the vehicle class and add the flight number for airport pickups. The booker accepts any pickup worldwide, and the desk confirms a fixed quote for London in the same way it does for Toronto. You receive one confirmation with the chauffeur's details shortly before the trip.

Typical vehicle choices for London are the Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class or similar, up to 3 passengers with 2 large and 2 cabin bags), the First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar, up to 3) and the Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban or GMC Yukon Denali or similar, up to 6 passengers). Larger groups use the Executive Sprinter, up to 12 passengers. All are "or similar" and the exact model is confirmed at booking. See the fleet page for the full list.

Cancellation follows the same policy as every Enroutz.ca ride: more than 72 hours' notice carries no charge, 72 hours or less is 10%, 48 hours or less is 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time.

Heathrow: terminals, pickup and the road into town

Heathrow has four passenger terminals, numbered 2, 3, 4 and 5. Terminal 1 closed to passengers in 2015, and older guides that mention five terminals are out of date. Air Canada flies from Terminal 2, and your boarding pass or airline confirmation shows the terminal for any other carrier; for codeshares the terminal follows the operating airline, not the one that sold the ticket.

Heathrow is about 24 km (15 miles) west of Mayfair. The drive takes 45 to 75 minutes depending on the M4 and the Hogarth Roundabout, and a Monday morning or a Friday evening sits at the long end. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.

The point most visitors miss is that pick-ups are not allowed in Heathrow's terminal drop-off areas. Heathrow's own rules say pick-ups must be made from the Terminal Parking or Park & Ride car parks, and a private hire driver who needs to wait for a passenger uses the Authorised Vehicle Area. You can read the airport's current rules on its official drop-off page. So your Enroutz.ca chauffeur does not circle the kerb outside arrivals. The vehicle waits in the designated car park, and you are walked to it.

Many travellers add the name-board meet-and-greet so the chauffeur is waiting inside arrivals with your name, or an alias for privacy, and carries the bags through the walk to the car. See our meet and greet service for how it works, and the Heathrow airport page for terminal-by-terminal detail.

International arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. Immigration at Heathrow can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour, so that window is generous, and flight tracking resets the pickup time if the aircraft is late.

Gatwick, London City, Stansted and Luton

London has five commercial airports, and a chauffeur service is most useful at the ones where public transport involves a change.

  • Gatwick (LGW) is about 45 km (28 miles) south of central London, usually 60 to 90 minutes by road. It has a North and a South Terminal joined by a free inter-terminal shuttle, so confirm which one your airline uses. See the Gatwick page.
  • London City (LCY) is only about 10 km (6 miles) from the City of London and 4 km (2.5 miles) from Canary Wharf, a drive of 15 to 30 minutes. It is the airport of choice for bankers and is the closest to ExCeL.
  • Stansted (STN) is about 55 km (34 miles) north-east of central London, 60 to 90 minutes by road.
  • Luton (LTN) is about 50 km (31 miles) north-west of central London, 60 to 90 minutes by road, often with M1 delays.

Connecting between Heathrow and Gatwick means about 65 km (40 miles) of M25, usually 60 to 90 minutes. A chauffeur is the practical option when you carry luggage and have a connection to make.

Honest comparison: Heathrow to Mayfair

Public transport at Heathrow is very good, and we would rather you choose the right option than the dearest one. Here is how the real alternatives compare for a single trip from Heathrow to Mayfair.

OptionTypical timeCost noteWho it suits
Elizabeth line to Bond StreetAbout 35–45 minutesLowestOne traveller, light luggage, rush hour
Heathrow Express to Paddington, then a cabAbout 15 minutes by train, plus the cabMid-rangeTravellers who want the fastest rail leg
Piccadilly line (Tube)About 50–60 minutesLowestBudget travel with time to spare
Black cab from the rank45–75 minutesMeteredSpontaneous arrivals with no booking
Rideshare app45–75 minutesSurge-pricedPickup is from a car park, not the kerb
Rental car45–75 minutes, then parkingHighest overallNot recommended for central London
Private chauffeur45–75 minutesFixed fare via bookerGroups, luggage, jet lag, a fixed arrival plan

If you are alone with a carry-on bag and landing at 8 am, the Elizabeth line is very good and is usually the better value. A chauffeur wins when you are travelling with colleagues, with several bags, after an overnight flight from Toronto, or when you want a named driver and an invoice for expenses.

Mayfair, St James's and the West End hotels

Most of our London clients stay in Mayfair, St James's, Knightsbridge or the West End. The streets are narrow, many are one-way and some hotels have a forecourt that fits one car at a time. A local driver knows which approach works, where the doorman will meet the car and when to wait on a side street so the forecourt stays clear.

For a Savoy arrival on the Strand, the hotel's covered forecourt makes the handover simple. See our page on The Savoy London and the wider hotels hub for the hotels we cover. For late checkouts, your chauffeur is told the time so the car is outside the door, not in a queue.

An hourly booking works well for a day of meetings across Mayfair, the City and Westminster. The driver waits, so you never look for a car between appointments. Read more about hourly chauffeur hire and the corporate chauffeur service with monthly invoicing.

The City of London, Canary Wharf and ExCeL

The distance from Mayfair to the City is only about 6 km (4 miles), but it is 20 to 40 minutes in daytime traffic. Canary Wharf is about 13 km (8 miles) east, 30 to 50 minutes. If you are crossing between the two, the driver can choose the route that avoids the Tower Bridge queue.

ExCeL London is the exhibition centre in the Royal Docks, in the E16 postcode. It is the closest major venue to London City Airport, about 3 km away, and about 40 km (25 miles) from Heathrow, 60 to 90 minutes. The venue's own site lists upcoming events, and in October 2026 it showed Employee Benefits Live on 13–14 October. Check the ExCeL London event calendar before you travel, because show-day traffic around the venue is heavy. For conferences and groups, see event transportation and trade show transportation.

Congestion Charge and ULEZ: what applies to a chauffeur car

London has two charges that matter to a car trip. The Congestion Charge covers a central zone, and licensed private hire vehicles are not exempt from it, so the operator, not you, has to deal with it. Transport for London publishes the charging hours and a postcode checker on its Congestion Charge page, and the hours differ at weekends and holidays, so look at the date of your trip rather than rely on a rule of thumb.

The Ultra Low Emission Zone is separate. It operates 24 hours a day, every day except Christmas Day, and covers all London boroughs. TfL explains it on the ULEZ page. Because partner vehicles are no more than four years old, they meet current standards, and the partner confirms compliance when it accepts your job.

You do not pay these charges separately. The booker shows an all-in fare for your exact addresses and vehicle before payment, and the desk confirms it.

Entering the UK from Toronto: the ETA

Canadian citizens usually need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before flying to London. It is applied for online, each traveller needs their own, and an ETA does not guarantee entry. The government explains who needs one on its official ETA page. Apply well before you fly, because airlines check it at check-in in Toronto.

Flying from Toronto to London takes about seven hours, and the time difference is five hours. Most evening departures from Pearson land in the early morning, which is when Heathrow's arrivals halls are busiest. If you are connecting from a Toronto departure, our Pearson Airport limo service brings you to the terminal before you fly.

Eurostar, rail and day trips from London

London's international trains leave from St Pancras. A chauffeur transfer to the terminal is straightforward, and the St Pancras page explains the drop-off. For a journey on to Paris, see the Paris chauffeur service, and for the rest of the continent, the Europe hub.

Other common chauffeur journeys from London include:

  1. Southampton cruise terminals, about 130 km (80 miles) and usually 1 hour 30 to 2 hours. See cruise ports: Southampton.
  2. Farnborough business aviation, about 55 km (34 miles), 50 to 80 minutes. See the Farnborough FBO page and the Farnborough Airshow page; the show is held in even-numbered years in July.
  3. Windsor and Oxford, each around 40 to 90 km, for a day with a driver. See private tours with driver.

Left-hand traffic, bus lanes and what to expect

British cars drive on the left, and the chauffeur is an experienced London driver who knows the bus lanes, the box junctions and the camera zones. Roadworks change often, so the route you saw on a map last month may not be the route taken. If you are a Canadian driver used to a rental, do not hire a car in central London: parking is scarce and the charges are numerous.

If your trip combines London with other cities, the Enroutz.ca desk can book several legs at once. See city-to-city car service and the worldwide chauffeur network to see how one desk handles the whole itinerary.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book a chauffeur in London from Canada?

Use the online booker, enter your London pickup and destination, and add your flight number for airport trips. The desk confirms a fixed quote, and you receive one confirmation and one invoice from Enroutz.ca.

How far is Heathrow from central London?

Heathrow is about 24 km (15 miles) from Mayfair and roughly 45 to 75 minutes by road, depending on the M4 and the time of day. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.

Where does my chauffeur meet me at Heathrow?

Pick-ups are not allowed in the terminal drop-off areas. With the meet-and-greet add-on the chauffeur is inside arrivals with a name board, then walks you to the vehicle in the designated car park. Without it, you are met at the agreed point.

Does my chauffeur cover the Congestion Charge and ULEZ?

Yes. The fare shown in the booker is all-in for your addresses and vehicle. The operator deals with the Congestion Charge, and partner vehicles are recent models that meet ULEZ standards.

Do Canadians need a visa or ETA for London?

Canadian citizens usually need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation before travelling. It is not a visa, but you cannot board without it. Check the government's ETA page before you fly.

What if my flight is delayed?

Flights are tracked on every airport pickup. International arrivals include 60 minutes' free waiting after landing, and the pickup time moves with the aircraft.

Which airport is best for London?

Heathrow has the most long-haul flights, London City is closest to the City and Canary Wharf, and Gatwick is often used for leisure. A chauffeur works from any of them. See the airports hub for terminal detail.

Can I hire a London chauffeur by the hour?

Yes. Hourly hire suits meeting days, shopping and events, and the driver waits between stops. See hourly chauffeur hire for how it works.

Is Enroutz.ca a security company?

No. Enroutz.ca is a chauffeur service with no armed drivers and no bodyguards. We work alongside a client's own security team where one is in place.
