Chauffeur service Amsterdam: short distances, careful logistics
Amsterdam is the easiest of Europe's major cities to underestimate. Schiphol is close to the centre, the trains are frequent, and the whole city is compact enough to cross by tram in half an hour. So why book a chauffeur? Because the exceptions are where trips fall apart: a hotel on a canal where cars cannot reach the door, a delegation arriving for a conference at the RAI, a family with five suitcases and two children, an executive who needs to be in The Hague by nine.
Enroutz.ca handles those exceptions. The Toronto desk books, confirms and invoices every ride; a vetted, licensed and commercially insured Amsterdam partner drives it. You receive one confirmation and one invoice, with a single point of contact around the clock. We do not own vehicles or offices in the Netherlands.
How far is Schiphol from central Amsterdam, and what is the quickest way in?

Schiphol (AMS) is about 15 km south-west of the centre. By road it takes 20 to 40 minutes, longer in the A4 and A10 rush. By train it takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes to Amsterdam Centraal, which is the quickest option for a solo traveller.
Schiphol is a single large airport with several arrivals halls and one of Europe's busiest hubs, so the meeting point matters. Tell the desk your flight number and we confirm where the chauffeur meets you. Every airport pickup is tracked against the live flight. International arrivals include 60 minutes' free waiting after landing, which covers passport control, customs and baggage. With the name-board meet and greet add-on, the chauffeur waits inside arrivals with your name or an alias on the board. See meet and greet service and our Schiphol airport page for terminal-level detail.
The Dutch railway company NS runs the airport's train service, and its English-language site has a journey planner and a page on travelling to the airport. The point is that Schiphol has its own railway station beneath the terminal, with frequent trains to Centraal, Zuid, the RAI and Utrecht.
Schiphol to Amsterdam: the real alternatives

| Option | Typical time | Cost note | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| NS train to Amsterdam Centraal | About 15–20 minutes | Lowest | Solo travellers with light bags |
| NS train to Amsterdam RAI or Zuid | About 10 minutes | Lowest | Delegates and business districts |
| Taxi from the rank | 20–40 minutes | Metered | Arrivals with no booking |
| Rideshare app | 20–40 minutes | Surge-priced | Short notice, app users |
| Hotel shuttle | 30–50 minutes | Varies by hotel | Hotels that run their own service |
| Rental car | 20–40 minutes, then parking | Highest overall | Not recommended for the city |
| Private chauffeur | 20–40 minutes | Fixed fare via booker | Groups, luggage, children, late arrivals |
The train deserves a straight recommendation. If you are one traveller with a carry-on, staying within a short walk of Centraal, Zuid or the RAI, take it. It is the lowest-cost and often the fastest route, and it runs frequently. A chauffeur wins when you are carrying more than you want to lift on and off a platform, when you arrive late, when several people travel together, or when the hotel is on a canal block the tram does not serve.
Amsterdam RAI: conferences and trade shows
The RAI exhibition and convention centre is at Europaplein 24, in the south of the city. Its own site says the Amsterdam RAI railway station is a three-minute walk, that Schiphol is about 10 minutes away by train, and that the Europaplein metro station is right outside. Car parks are directly off the A10 ring road. It also warns that major roadworks around Amsterdam can cause diversions, so check your route first. All of that is on the venue's getting here page.

The RAI's homepage in October 2026 listed events including TechEx Europe 2026, the World Vaccine Congress Europe 2026 and MRO Europe, with dates in the RAI calendar. Check the calendar before you book, because dates and hall allocations change.
For delegates, a chauffeur works best when the group is large, the hotel is outside the rail corridor, or the programme includes dinners across the city. The RAI is about 6 km from Centraal and around 15 km from Schiphol by road, 15 to 25 minutes in the first case and 20 to 30 in the second. See trade show transportation, event transportation and meetings, incentives and conferences.
The canal belt: where a car can and cannot go
Amsterdam's seventeenth-century canal belt, the grachtengordel, is a UNESCO-listed ring of canals and narrow streets at the heart of the city. It is also where many of the best hotels sit. Several practical points shape any transfer in this area:

- Many streets are narrow, one-way or closed to through traffic, and some canal-side addresses can only be reached from one direction.
- Trams and cyclists have priority in most places, and bike lanes run alongside almost every road. A driver must stop only where it is safe and legal.
- A hotel's entrance may face the canal while its drop-off point is around the corner, so the driver needs the exact entrance and not just the street name.
- At peak times, the temporary stop in front of a hotel may be limited to a few minutes.
A local chauffeur knows these constraints and chooses the nearest legal stop. If it is a short walk, the driver carries the bags. The city's official tourism site, iamsterdam.com, has visitor information on getting around, and it links a guide for travel from Schiphol. Amsterdam also operates environmental rules for vehicles in the centre. We leave out specifics because they belong to the city and change, and the partner's vehicles, which are no more than four years old, are normally in the cleaner categories.
The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht
The Netherlands is small, and most business travel is a day trip from Amsterdam. Approximate road distances and times:
- Utrecht, about 40 km (25 miles), 40 to 55 minutes.
- The Hague, about 55 km (34 miles), 50 to 65 minutes.
- Rotterdam, about 75 km (47 miles), 55 to 75 minutes.
- Brussels, about 210 km (130 miles), around 2 hours 30 minutes.
The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and home to international institutions, including the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, so it receives many delegations. A direct car from Schiphol to The Hague takes 40 to 55 minutes and avoids the changes the train requires with luggage. Rotterdam's port and business centre are an hour south. A chauffeur can run a multi-city day, with a waiting car in each place. See corporate chauffeur service and hourly chauffeur hire.
Tulips, windmills and day trips with a driver
Visitors in spring ask about the tulip fields around Lisse, about 35 km south-west of Amsterdam, 40 to 50 minutes by road. The Keukenhof gardens are open for only a few weeks each spring, and the official dates are published annually, so check before planning a trip. Zaanse Schans, with its working windmills, is about 15 km north and takes 25 to 35 minutes. Haarlem and the coast at Zandvoort are within 30 minutes.
A driver by the hour lets you reach the fields at the quiet start of the day and avoid the coach traffic. For small groups, an SUV carries up to six passengers, and a Sprinter takes up to 12. See private tours with driver and group transportation.
Arrivals at night, early flights and winter weather
Schiphol runs through the night, and a large share of long-haul flights from North America land in the morning, between about six and nine, when the A4 and the ring road are filling. If you land at that hour, the road time sits towards the longer end of the range, and a train may beat the car for a single traveller. After an overnight flight from Toronto, many passengers still prefer a named driver, a quiet car and a direct run to the hotel, and we have no argument with either choice.
Winter brings fog, wind and the odd cold snap, and Dutch roads are generally cleared promptly, but delays on the ring road are common in bad weather. The desk monitors your flight, and the driver leaves extra margin for an early departure. For a 7 am flight out of Schiphol, a pickup at around 4:30 gives you time for check-in, security and a coffee. Tell the desk your airline and terminal arrangements when you book the return.
Weddings, family trips and group arrivals
Amsterdam is a popular base for family trips and small weddings in the countryside. A Luxury SUV carries up to six passengers and five or six large bags, which suits a family with children, and child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking. For bridal parties and wedding guests, see wedding chauffeur service. Larger groups of up to 12 use the Executive Sprinter, and the desk can quote mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats for bigger delegations.
Onward trips: Paris, Frankfurt, London and beyond
Amsterdam is a hub for rail and road. Frankfurt is about 440 km (273 miles) away, around 4 hours 30 minutes; Paris about 510 km (317 miles), about 5 hours. Most people take the train for these and use a chauffeur for the first and last legs. See the Paris chauffeur service, Frankfurt chauffeur service, London chauffeur service and Europe hub. The desk can book several legs together and invoice them once; see city-to-city car service.
Canadian citizens do not need a visa for short stays in the Netherlands, which is part of the Schengen area.
