Dubai is one of the few cruise ports where the first morning can take you from a ship's gangway to a skyscraper hotel within twenty minutes, or to an airport gate in less than thirty. That speed is also why plans go wrong: guests assume the ship is "in the city", then discover that the terminal is a long way from the Palm, or from the other terminal, or from the airport at rush hour. If you are searching for a Dubai cruise terminal transfer, this page explains the two terminal areas Visit Dubai names, the distances to the places visitors usually go, the honest alternatives, and how a chauffeur is booked from Toronto or from anywhere else.

Dubai cruise terminal transfer: what Enroutz.ca offers

Enroutz.ca is a premium black-car and chauffeur service with its dispatch desk in Toronto. In Dubai, the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur partner and is booked, confirmed and invoiced by the Enroutz.ca desk. You hold one confirmation, receive one invoice and have one point of contact 24/7. Partner vehicles are no more than four model years old, and Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach up to seven. We do not own vehicles or offices in Dubai.

The booker shows the exact fare for your pickup, drop-off and vehicle before you pay. Enter the terminal, the ship name and the date, and the desk confirms a fixed quote. For the wider city service, see the Dubai chauffeur service page and the Middle East hub.

Typical cruise bookings in Dubai are:

  • Disembarkation transfers to a hotel in Downtown, the Marina, the Palm or the Creek.
  • Full-day private driver bookings, with the ship's all-aboard time as the fixed end.
  • Airport transfers from the ship to Dubai International (DXB) at the end of a cruise.
  • Embarkation transfers from a hotel or from the airport to the terminal.

Visit Dubai names two cruise terminal areas: Dubai Cruise Terminal at Port Rashid, also called Mina Rashid, and the Dubai Harbour cruise terminal. They are in different parts of the city, so confirm with your cruise line which one your ship uses before you book a transfer.

Port Rashid is the older cruise area, on the Bur Dubai side of the city near the mouth of Dubai Creek. Dubai Harbour is a newer waterfront development; its own site describes the region's largest marina and a cruise terminal coming together there, on the coast beside the Palm Jumeirah and Bluewaters side of the city. These locations matter, because the same hotel can be a short ride from one terminal and a long ride from the other.

We confirm the terminal in the booking and the meeting point in the confirmation. Cruise lines can change berths and terminals between itineraries, so use your boarding documents as the final authority and tell the desk if the terminal changes. See Visit Dubai's official tourism site and the Dubai Harbour site for current terminal information.

How does the cruise pickup work in Dubai?

  1. Book in advance with the ship name, the cruise line, the terminal and the disembarkation time.
  2. Receive your confirmation with the vehicle class, the fixed fare and the meeting point.
  3. Meet the chauffeur. A name-board meet-and-greet is available as an add-on, with an alias on the board if you prefer privacy. The default is the point stated in the confirmation.
  4. Travel. Luggage is loaded by the chauffeur and the ride starts. For embarkation, the chauffeur takes you to the terminal named in your boarding documents.

Waiting time on a port pickup is 15 minutes from the scheduled pickup time. If your disembarkation is delayed or staggered, tell the desk, which is open 24/7. Large ships release guests in waves, so the practical pickup time is usually later than the ship's arrival.

Distances from Dubai's cruise terminals

All figures are rounded, approximate and for off-peak travel. Rush-hour and event traffic add time, and Dubai's busiest road periods are weekday mornings and evenings.

Ship shuttle, metro, taxi, rideshare or private chauffeur?

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority regulates taxis and lists several categories on its website, including taxis for families and for female passengers. Read the RTA site for current categories. The taxi rank is a fine option for a short hop. A private chauffeur is better when the heat is intense, when you have a day of several stops, or when your plan involves the Palm and Downtown on the same day.

Planning a cruise day in Dubai

A cruise stop in Dubai is a short day in a long city. Plan around the ship's all-aboard time, not around the attractions.

  • Pick two areas, not five. Downtown (Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall), Old Dubai (the Creek and souks) and the Palm are each worth a half-day. Combining Old Dubai and Downtown suits a Port Rashid ship, because both are close to the terminal.
  • Agree the return time with the chauffeur. Set it at least one hour before the all-aboard time to allow for traffic and for the queue at the terminal.
  • Use an hourly booking if the plan changes often. See the hourly chauffeur page for how hours are counted, and the private tours with driver page for the idea of chauffeured touring.
  • Carry water and a light cover-up. Heat in the middle of the day can be severe, and many indoor venues are cold.

Embarkation day: from the hotel or the airport to the ship

If Dubai is where your cruise starts, the sequence is the reverse, and the margin for error is smaller. Cruise lines publish a check-in window and a latest arrival time for each embarkation, and the terminal can be busy in the hours before departure. The sensible method is to start from the latest arrival time on your boarding documents, subtract the drive time in the table above, and then subtract an additional buffer for traffic, for the vehicle to reach the terminal approach, and for the queue at the terminal. Tell the desk the ship name, the terminal and the latest check-in at booking, and the pickup time is set back from that.

If you are arriving by air on the day of embarkation, give the desk your flight number. Flight tracking applies to every airport pickup, and international arrivals include 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. A long-haul arrival into DXB, passport control and baggage claim can take a good while, so allow for that before you plan to be at the ship. The safest alternative is to arrive the day before, stay in a hotel near the terminal, and take a short transfer on the morning. That is especially useful for travellers flying from Toronto, where the flight is long and delays are possible. See the Dubai DXB airport page for the airport side.

If plans change on the day

Cruise itineraries change. A port call may move to the other terminal, a ship may be delayed by weather, and an excursion may overrun. The practical rules are the same each time. Message the desk as early as you can, which is open 24/7. State the new ship, terminal or time. The desk and the partner will confirm what can be arranged. Waiting time is 15 minutes from the scheduled pickup time, so a significant change is worth a message rather than a wait at the curb. If you booked an as-directed day, the end time is the agreed end of the booking, and the desk can help you plan around the all-aboard time.

Visiting Abu Dhabi from a Dubai cruise

Abu Dhabi is about 140 km from Dubai, and cruise guests with a long call sometimes make a day of it. The drive takes one and a half hours or more depending on traffic, so it suits a ship that stays overnight or a call that runs late. See the Abu Dhabi chauffeur service and the Abu Dhabi airport page for details. A same-day return to a ship leaving in the evening is risky; discuss the schedule with the desk before you book.

Respecting local customs

Dubai is a welcoming city for international visitors, and a few courtesies make the day smoother.

  • Dress modestly in malls, souks and at religious sites. Shoulders and knees covered is a safe rule for non-beach settings. Check any mosque's own visitor rules before you go.
  • Be considerate in Ramadan. During the fasting month many Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, and visitors are generally expected to be discreet about eating, drinking and smoking in public in daylight hours. Many restaurants adjust their hours. Dates change each year; check them in advance.
  • Alcohol is regulated. We never promise drinks on board, and local law applies to the vehicle, to hotels and to public places.
  • Photography. Do not photograph people without their permission, and avoid photographing government buildings.

Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request.

Hotels and landmarks near the terminals

Our hotel pages for Burj Al Arab and Atlantis The Royal explain the entrances and the usual arrival process. The hotels hub lists others. For conferences, see the GITEX Global Dubai page and the trade shows hub.

Arriving in Dubai from Toronto

If you are flying from Toronto to Dubai to join a ship, the sequence works in one booking: a chauffeur from home or hotel to Pearson, the flight, then a Dubai chauffeur partner from DXB to the terminal or to a hotel the night before. The Toronto leg is operated from the Toronto desk; the Dubai leg is delivered by the partner and invoiced by Enroutz.ca. See the Pearson airport limo page and the worldwide chauffeur network page. Check the entry requirements for your nationality with the UAE authorities and your cruise line before you travel.

Luggage, children and comfort

An Executive Sedan or First Class Sedan carries up to three passengers with two large and two cabin bags; a Luxury SUV carries up to six with five or six large bags; an Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 with 12 bags. Cruise luggage is bulky, so state the number of bags at booking. Child, toddler and booster seats can be requested, and most vehicles carry Wi-Fi, water and phone chargers. See the fleet and group transportation pages. Browse other ports on the cruise ports hub.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Dubai's cruise terminals?

Visit Dubai names Dubai Cruise Terminal at Port Rashid (Mina Rashid) and the Dubai Harbour cruise terminal. They are in different parts of the city, so confirm which one your ship uses.

How far is the Dubai cruise terminal from the airport?

From Port Rashid, DXB is about 12 to 15 km, usually 20 to 35 minutes off-peak. From Dubai Harbour it is about 35 km, usually 35 to 55 minutes. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.

Can I book a private chauffeur for a full cruise day in Dubai?

Yes. Book an as-directed day with the ship's all-aboard time as the end point, and agree the return time at least one hour earlier.

Is the metro better than a chauffeur from the port?

For light luggage and a simple route, the metro is the lower-cost option. A chauffeur is better with luggage, children, intense heat or a day of several stops.

What if my ship disembarks late?

Tell the desk, which is open 24/7. Waiting time is 15 minutes from the scheduled pickup time, and the chauffeur plans around your real disembarkation time.

Will the chauffeur carry alcohol on board?

We never promise drinks on board, and local law applies to vehicles and public places.

Who drives the car in Dubai?

A vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur partner, booked, confirmed and invoiced by the Enroutz.ca desk. Enroutz.ca does not own vehicles or offices in Dubai.

What is the cancellation policy?

More than 72 hours' notice is free; 72 hours or less carries 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. Large events may carry a different deadline, stated on the confirmation.
