Port Everglades has an unusual problem for a transfer company: the airport is so close that a ride from it can look pointless. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is 1.8 miles (about 2.9 km) from the port, according to the port itself. So why would anyone book a Port Everglades transfer with a chauffeur? Because most people on a cruise are not travelling light, because the drop-off is a matter of getting to the correct terminal gate, and because many cruise guests do not fly into FLL at all.
This page is for those cases: the family with six bags, the group arriving from Miami or Orlando, the traveller landing from Toronto or London who wants someone waiting, and the guest leaving the ship who needs to be at a departure gate before the airline closes bag check.
Is it worth booking a car for Port Everglades if the airport is next door?
From FLL it is a short hop, about 2.9 km, and a taxi or rideshare is reasonable for light luggage. A chauffeur is worth booking for heavy bags, children, groups, a late-night arrival, or when you arrive from Miami airport, which is about 45 km away.
That is the honest answer. A fixed-fare car is a convenience, not a necessity, on the FLL leg. It becomes the better choice when the trip is longer, the party is larger or the schedule is tight.

What Port Everglades is, and why the terminal number matters
The port lists eight cruise terminals: 2, 4, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26 and 29, and describes itself as one of the three busiest cruise homeports in the world (Port Everglades cruise terminals). It expected about 4.4 million cruise guests in 2025. Terminal 25 has been renovated and is the home of Celebrity's Edge, Apex and Beyond, as the port's cruise page notes (Port Everglades cruise information).

The port says it has three entrances off the interstates, highways and Florida's Turnpike, but gives no individual gate names on that page. Two things follow. First, the chauffeur needs the terminal number, which comes from your cruise documents, not from the port's general address. Second, the entrance used depends on the direction you arrive from, and a driver who knows the port uses the entrance closest to your terminal.
Here is what the port publishes for arrivals: drop-off areas, covered walkways, elevator and escalator access to the gangways, and curbside porters (arriving and departing). Digital wayfinding signs show ship names and terminal assignments. Everyone aged 18 or over needs a government-issued photo ID at the security checkpoint, and the port asks that you keep ID and cruise documents in your carry-on, not in checked luggage.
Getting to the ship: your options compared

| Option | Typical time | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Taxi or rideshare from FLL | About 10 minutes | Metered or surge-priced | One or two light bags, daytime arrival |
| Cruise-line shuttle | 20–60 minutes including waiting | Low or included | Packages that bundle it |
| Hotel shuttle | Varies | Often included | Pre-cruise night near the airport |
| Rental car | About 10 minutes from FLL | Variable; parking and return add cost | Travellers continuing to Florida after the cruise |
| Taxi or rideshare from MIA | 35–60 minutes | Metered; surge-priced at peak | Light luggage |
| Private chauffeur from Enroutz.ca | 10 minutes from FLL; 35–60 from MIA | Fixed fare via booker | Families, groups, heavy bags, late arrivals |
The port's cruise page lists taxis, shuttles and rideshares as available, and for a solo traveller landing at FLL in the daytime they are sensible. The case for a chauffeur gets stronger at three points: when you land at MIA instead of FLL, when you travel with a group, or when the arrival time is awkward.
From Miami International Airport
Some of the best flight deals into South Florida land at Miami. From Miami International to Port Everglades is about 45 km. The drive is up I-95 or via the Turnpike, and travel time varies between 35 minutes and over an hour in rush periods. A private car is worth booking here because a taxi's metered fare over that distance can be a surprise at the end, whereas our booker quotes the all-in figure in advance.
If your itinerary sails from Miami instead, check our PortMiami transfer page. Some guests book a pre-cruise night in Miami and sail from Fort Lauderdale; the Miami airport page covers pickups at MIA. For general city rides, see Miami car service.
Embarkation day: how the timing works
- Match the car to your boarding window. Cruise lines assign check-in times to avoid crowds. If your window is 1 pm and your flight lands at 9 am, you have time for breakfast or a hotel stop. Do not queue early.
- Give the desk your terminal number. It is on your cruise documents. The driver goes to the entrance nearest that terminal.
- Plan for security. Keep your ID and cruise documents in your carry-on. The port notes that weapons of any type are not permitted inside the port, so passengers who carry licensed firearms in vehicles must store them off port property.
- Let the porters take the bags. Attach your cruise line's luggage tags before you hand them over.
- Walk on. There are covered walkways and elevators to the gangways.

A fixed-fare chauffeur can drop you at the terminal and nobody has to look for parking. The port lists more than 5,500 secured parking spaces across two garages and three gated surface lots, but a driver-dropped passenger skips all that.
Disembarkation: the timetable people forget
This is where Port Everglades differs from most ports, and where a transfer plan matters. The port says guests typically leave the ship between 7 and 9 am after the shore-leave announcement. It also warns that airlines at FLL may check bags only up to two hours before your flight.
That second sentence matters. If your flight leaves at 10 am, you will be asking an airline to accept your bags at 8 am, which is when you might still be waiting for your luggage group. Choose a flight from late morning onwards, or plan for a hotel night.
The port's pickup arrangements are sensible: drivers can wait free in the cell-phone lots at the Port Administration Building (1850 Eller Drive, past the security checkpoint) or the cell-phone lot north of Cruise Terminal 18. Porter service can take your bags to a private car, taxi or limousine, and tipping is optional. We use the same arrangement for your chauffeur: book the pickup after your group is called, and the ride has a 15-minute wait at the terminal.
Orlando, theme parks and cruise-day combinations
Orlando is one of the largest sources of Fort Lauderdale cruise passengers, but the airport is a long way. Orlando International is roughly three hours from the port, which is a much longer trip than the Port Canaveral run. If you are choosing between sailings from Fort Lauderdale and Port Canaveral for a trip that includes theme parks, read our Port Canaveral transfer guide and see which port is closer to your flight. For the Orlando end, our Orlando airport MCO page and Orlando car service cover the city.
A one-way ride from Orlando to Port Everglades is a long fixed-fare trip. Large groups often book a Luxury SUV or an Executive Sprinter rather than splitting across several cars.
The night before: when to stay near the airport
Many guests fly in the day before to remove the risk of a late flight, and with FLL so close to the port, a hotel near the airport is an easy choice. The hotel's own shuttle may cover the ride to the port, which is worth asking about before you book anything else. If it does not, a short car ride from the hotel to your terminal is the simplest answer.
A pre-cruise night also helps with the luggage problem. A hotel can hold your bags at the front desk while you eat, and a chauffeur can collect the whole party at the time your boarding window opens. For travellers coming from Canada, that means one fewer same-day connection to worry about. Hotel pickups are treated as other pickups, with a 15-minute wait from the scheduled time.
If your ship sails from somewhere else
South Florida has more than one cruise port, and cruise lines move ships between them by season. If your confirmation says Miami, you want the PortMiami transfer page. If it says Cape Canaveral, use the Port Canaveral page. The distances between these ports are large enough that a mistake on the booking is expensive in time, so check the port name against your documents before you book the car.

Why book with Enroutz.ca for a Florida cruise
Outside Toronto and Ontario, the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur partner. In Florida that means a US-licensed driver, since domestic US point-to-point work cannot be done with a Canadian vehicle. The Enroutz.ca desk books, confirms and invoices the whole trip: one booking, one confirmation, one invoice, one contact at any hour.
That matters if you are a Canadian travelling south. A Toronto booking can cover your Toronto airport ride and the Florida end together; start with our Pearson Airport limo page. Our USA hub explains how coverage works across the country, and the cruise ports hub shows every port.
Corporate groups booking incentive cruises can use corporate accounts with monthly invoicing.
Frequently asked questions
How far is Fort Lauderdale airport from Port Everglades?
The port gives 1.8 miles (about 2.9 km) from FLL, roughly a 10-minute drive. For light luggage, a taxi or rideshare is a sensible option, and a private chauffeur is for heavier bags, groups and late arrivals.
How far is Miami airport from Port Everglades?
About 45 km (28 miles), usually 35 to 60 minutes depending on traffic. It is a much longer trip than the FLL hop, which is where a fixed-fare car is most useful.
What time do cruise passengers leave the ship at Port Everglades?
The port says guests typically leave between 7 and 9 am, after the shore-leave announcement. Your group's exact time depends on your cruise line, so wait for your own call before you schedule the car.
When should my flight leave after a cruise at Port Everglades?
Choose a flight that leaves late morning or later. The port warns that airlines at FLL may check bags only up to two hours before departure, and a 7 to 9 am disembarkation leaves little margin for an early flight.
Where do drivers wait at Port Everglades?
The port provides free cell-phone lots at the Port Administration Building, 1850 Eller Drive, past the security checkpoint, and north of Cruise Terminal 18. Our chauffeur pickups at the terminal include a 15-minute wait.
Which terminal should I tell the driver?
Give the number from your cruise documents. The port has eight cruise terminals: 2, 4, 18, 19, 21, 25, 26 and 29. The booking carries the terminal so the driver goes to the right entrance.
Can I book a ride from Orlando to Port Everglades?
Yes. It is about 330 km (205 miles), roughly three hours. The booker shows the exact fare for your vehicle and address before payment. Sailing from Port Canaveral is closer to Orlando; see our Port Canaveral page.
Do you offer child seats?
Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking. Ask when you reserve so they are fitted before the car leaves for the airport.
What is your cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice has no charge. At 72 hours or less the charge is 10%, at 48 hours or less 50%, and at 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. Large events and conventions may carry a different deadline.
