Chicago is the railway crossroads of the American Midwest, and Union Station is where it happens. If you need a Chicago Union Station car service after a long-distance Amtrak journey, before a flight from O'Hare, or on the way to a conference at McCormick Place, this page covers the pickup, the ride times, the alternatives and the limits of what a chauffeur can and cannot do for you at a very large station. It is written for travellers from Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and the Gulf who may never have used an American intercity train.
Chicago Union Station car service: what Enroutz.ca offers
Rides inside the United States are delivered by US-licensed chauffeur partners, because Canadian vehicles cannot do domestic point-to-point work in the United States. Each partner is vetted, licensed and commercially insured. Vehicles are no more than four model years old, with Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach up to seven. The Enroutz.ca desk books, confirms and invoices the ride, so you hold one confirmation and one invoice with one point of contact 24/7.
You choose the class: Executive Sedan, First Class Sedan, Luxury SUV or Executive Sprinter, "or similar", with the exact model confirmed at booking. Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine and armoured vehicles can be requested, with availability confirmed at booking. For the full range see the fleet page. The booker shows the exact all-in fare for your address and vehicle before you pay.
Typical Union Station bookings are:
- Business travellers on Amtrak routes from the Midwest to downtown meetings.
- Long-distance passengers who arrive after a night on a train and want a quiet, direct ride.
- Hotel transfers for visitors to the Loop, the Magnificent Mile or the convention district.
- Airport transfers to O'Hare or Midway for passengers who combine rail and flight.
The wider city service is described on the Chicago car service page; the USA hub lists the other cities we cover.
How does a chauffeur pickup at Chicago Union Station work?

Give the Amtrak or Metra train and scheduled arrival at booking. The confirmation names the meeting point, and the meet-and-greet option puts a chauffeur with a name board at an agreed point in the station. Waiting time is 15 minutes from the scheduled pickup time, and the desk runs 24/7 if the train is late.
Chicago Union Station is a large terminal with a great hall, concourses and multiple street entrances. The station's own site lists links for taxis, rideshare, bike share, CTA, Greyhound and parking but does not name a pickup point, and Amtrak's page leaves its taxi and pick-up section blank in our check. Because the official sources do not fix the spot, we do not describe a single door as the answer. Instead, your confirmation states the meeting point arranged with your chauffeur partner for your date, and we recommend you follow it exactly.
A simple routine:
- Put the train number and scheduled arrival in the booking.
- Walk to the meeting point named in the confirmation; do not leave through the first exit you find.
- If you ordered the meet-and-greet, look for the name board. An alias is available for privacy.
- If the train is delayed, tell the desk, and the pickup can be arranged around the new arrival.
Chicago Union Station facts for visitors
From the station's operator and Amtrak, in October 2026:

- Operating hours: the station's own site says it is open seven days a week and closes daily between 01:00 and 05:00.
- Services: Amtrak describes Chicago Union Station as the hub for Midwest corridor services and for national network trains serving the west. The station site describes Metra as the commuter rail service for the Chicago area.
- Amtrak lounge: Amtrak's Metropolitan Lounge is listed as open daily 08:00 to 21:30 for eligible customers.
- Great Hall: the station's site lists the Great Hall as a private event space, so some areas may be closed to the public during events.
- Notices: Amtrak has posted road-closure information for the Chicago Marathon from 11 October 2026 and updated Great Hall hours from 30 September 2026.
Check these on Amtrak's Chicago station page and the Chicago Union Station site on the day you travel. Neither site gives a consistent street address in our check, so rely on the map and the meeting point in your confirmation.
What trains arrive at Chicago Union Station?
Chicago is the end of many American long-distance routes. As one example, Amtrak lists the California Zephyr as a daily train from Chicago Union Station to Emeryville, California, with a journey time of 51 hours 20 minutes. The Midwest corridor trains are shorter and serve cities across Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan.
Two points for visitors:
- Long-distance trains can arrive well off schedule. On a journey of more than two days, a pickup booked for the scheduled arrival can need to move by an hour or more. Contact the desk as soon as you know.
- Say which service you are on. Amtrak and Metra both use the station, so the booking should state the operator and train number.
Chicago Union Station to O'Hare and Midway

| Destination | Distance from Union Station | Typical drive time | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| O'Hare (ORD) | about 27 km (17 miles) | 30 to 70 minutes | Kennedy Expressway is the pinch point at rush hour and in snow |
| Midway (MDW) | about 18 km (11 miles) | 25 to 50 minutes | Stevenson Expressway |
| McCormick Place | about 5 km (3 miles) | 12 to 30 minutes | event traffic raises the upper figure |
| Magnificent Mile | about 3 km (2 miles) | 10 to 25 minutes | Michigan Avenue congestion |
| Navy Pier | about 4 km (2.5 miles) | 12 to 25 minutes | busy on summer weekends |
Read our O'Hare page for terminal procedures. The distances are rounded and the times are typical, not guaranteed.
Union Station, CTA, Metra, taxi or chauffeur?

| Option | Typical time to a Loop hotel | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk | 5 to 25 minutes | free | hotels near the station and one bag |
| CTA bus or train | 10 to 30 minutes | lowest | light luggage and a direct line |
| Taxi | 8 to 20 minutes | metered | quick curbside departures |
| Rideshare | 8 to 25 minutes | surge-priced at peak times | short notice, light luggage |
| Private chauffeur | 8 to 25 minutes, door to door | fixed fare via booker | families, groups, executives, heavy luggage, late-night arrivals |
If your hotel is a ten-minute walk and the weather is good, walk. A chauffeur earns its fare when the trip is to O'Hare, when luggage or children are involved, when winter weather makes a taxi queue unpleasant, or when you want a vehicle waiting for you at 05:00 after a delayed overnight train.
McCormick Place and Chicago convention travel
Chicago hosts large conventions, and Union Station is a gateway for delegates arriving from the Midwest and the west. McCormick Place is about 5 km (3 miles) from the station. On show days, the shuttle queues and approach roads are heavy, and a pre-booked chauffeur with a confirmed time reduces the uncertainty. Read our trade shows hub and events hub for shows we serve. For a corporate group, an Executive Sprinter carries up to 12 passengers with 12 bags; mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are available on request. See group transportation.
After a long train journey: what a chauffeur changes
A night on a train, or two, leaves most passengers tired and carrying more luggage than they would take on a flight. The last mile is where a pre-booked car helps most. You are met at an agreed point, bags go straight into the vehicle, and the ride goes to a hotel check-in or a meeting without a queue. If you are connecting to a flight, the chauffeur can take you directly to the departures door at O'Hare or Midway, and the desk can plan the pickup for the latest sensible time, using the train's scheduled arrival and your airline's check-in guidance.
Be realistic about the limits. A train that arrives hours late cannot be made to arrive early, so leave a generous buffer between a long-distance arrival and a flight, and treat the first sensible flight of the day after an overnight arrival as a plan, not a promise.
A first-time visitor's guide to the Loop
Union Station is on the west edge of the Loop, Chicago's central business district. The river runs along the north and west of the Loop, and the bridges over it carry much of the traffic. Visitors often underestimate how close the major attractions are: Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago and the lakefront are all within a short drive, and many are walkable on a fine day. The Magnificent Mile, with its hotels and shops, is just north of the river. McCormick Place, on the lakefront south of the Loop, is the larger drive. The choice between walking and driving is a matter of weather and luggage rather than distance. For a day of meetings, an hourly booking keeps one vehicle with you; see the hourly chauffeur page for how hours are counted.
Chicago weather, marathon days and road closures
Chicago winters are cold and windy, and snow slows both rail and road. Allow extra time to O'Hare in a storm, and consider the earlier flight if your connection is tight. Road closures for big events change the pickup route, and Amtrak has posted marathon road-closure notice for 11 October 2026. In those cases the desk and the chauffeur partner confirm an adjusted meeting point and timing.
Chicago's official tourism board, Choose Chicago, has visitor information on getting around.
Coming from Toronto
Toronto to Chicago is about 840 km (520 miles) by road via Windsor and Detroit, usually eight and a half to ten hours plus the border. There is no direct train between the two cities, and most Canadians fly. A cross-border chauffeur from Toronto is available for travellers who want to drive; see the cross-border car service page and the Detroit airport page. If you are flying instead, the Pearson airport limo page explains the Toronto end. For New York and Washington rail connections, see New York Penn Station and Washington Union Station.
Luggage, children and comfort
Chauffeurs help with luggage from the meeting point to the vehicle. An Executive Sedan or First Class Sedan carries up to three passengers with two large and two cabin bags; a Luxury SUV up to six with five or six large bags. Child, toddler and booster seats can be requested at booking. Most vehicles carry Wi-Fi, water and phone chargers. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request.
Corporate accounts and repeat travel
Firms that send staff through Chicago can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing and cost-centre references. See corporate accounts and the corporate chauffeur service page. The worldwide chauffeur network page explains how a Chicago ride is delivered while the Toronto desk books it.
Frequently asked questions
Where does my chauffeur meet me at Chicago Union Station?
At the point named in your confirmation. The station's own site and Amtrak's page do not name one pickup door, so we state the arranged meeting point in your booking rather than guess. Add the meet-and-greet option for a name board.
How far is Chicago Union Station from O'Hare?
About 27 km (17 miles), usually 30 to 70 minutes, depending on the Kennedy Expressway. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.
Is the CTA better than a chauffeur from Union Station?
For light luggage and a hotel on a CTA line, the CTA is lower cost. A chauffeur is better for luggage, families, groups and late arrivals.
Does the chauffeur wait if my train is late?
Waiting time on a station pickup is 15 minutes from the scheduled pickup time. Tell the desk, which is open 24/7, if the train is delayed.
Who drives the car in Chicago?
A US-licensed, vetted and commercially insured chauffeur partner, booked, confirmed and invoiced by the Enroutz.ca desk. Vehicles are no more than four model years old.
Can you pick me up from a long-distance Amtrak train?
Yes. Give the train and scheduled arrival at booking. Long-distance trains can run late, so keep the desk informed.
Can you take me from Toronto to Chicago by car?
Yes, as a cross-border ride that runs from Toronto. It is about 840 km (520 miles), usually eight and a half to ten hours plus the border.
What is the cancellation policy?
More than 72 hours' notice is free; 72 hours or less carries 10%, 48 hours or less 50%, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100%, measured from the scheduled pickup time. Large events may carry a different deadline, stated on the confirmation.
