SFO car service for the Bay Area traveller
San Francisco International sits on the western shore of the bay, about 20 km (13 mi) south of downtown, and it is the front door to three separate destinations that need three different drives: the city, the Peninsula and Silicon Valley, and wine country to the north. A good SFO car service is built around that fact. The right driver, the right route and the right departure time depend on where you are really going.
Enroutz.ca runs its chauffeur desk from Toronto. In the Bay Area, the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur partner, while the booking, confirmation and invoice stay with us. One conversation, one confirmation, one invoice, and a desk that answers at any hour. Partner vehicles are at most four model years old, with an allowance of seven for Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Maybach.
Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine and armoured vehicles can be arranged on request; availability is confirmed when you book. Every class is shown as "or similar", and the exact model is confirmed at booking. Mini-coaches and coaches of 20 to 56 seats are also available. The full fleet page has the detail.
Put your flight number, your drop-off address and your party size into the booker, and it returns the exact all-in fare for that vehicle before you commit.
Where does an SFO chauffeur meet you?

Your confirmation states the pickup point. SFO runs four terminals (Terminals 1, 2, 3 and the International Terminal) and a free AirTrain that links them, so the chauffeur is positioned for your terminal. You can also ask for a name-board greeting inside arrivals.
The International Terminal is where most long-haul flights arrive, and it is also the place where the airport's rail station is, so it gets busy. Domestic flights from Toronto, Vancouver and Montréal usually use whichever terminal the airline is assigned. Our desk reads that from your itinerary and tells the chauffeur, who then waits at the correct meeting point rather than at a generic one.
We have not been able to open the airport's own ground-transportation pages while preparing this article, so we are not quoting a specific kerb, door number or garage level for pre-arranged vehicles. That detail changes with construction and airport policy, and it belongs in your confirmation, not in a web page that can age.
Arriving from Toronto: preclearance, then the Bay
If you are flying from Toronto Pearson to SFO, you are normally precleared in Toronto before you depart. US Customs and Border Protection says its preclearance travellers skip CBP and TSA inspection lines on arrival in the US. In practice this means you walk off the plane at SFO and go straight to baggage claim, and your chauffeur can plan for a short gap between landing and the kerb.

For your return, the departure end matters as much as the arrival. Our Pearson Airport limo guide explains what to expect at Toronto before a US-bound flight.
Passengers on other international itineraries, for instance from Asia or Europe, will go through the usual federal inspection at SFO and receive the longer free wait of 60 minutes after landing. Domestic arrivals receive 30 minutes, and other pickups 15.
How far is SFO from where you need to be?
These are road distances with a typical drive time outside rush hour. The Bay Area's peak is long: it can start at 6:30 in the morning and run until after 7 in the evening on the 101, the 280 and the bridges. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle.

| Destination | Distance | Typical drive time |
|---|---|---|
| Downtown San Francisco and Union Square | about 20 km (13 mi) | 25 to 50 minutes |
| Moscone Center (SoMa) | about 22 km (14 mi) | 25 to 55 minutes |
| Palo Alto | about 40 km (25 mi) | 30 to 60 minutes |
| San Jose | about 55 km (34 mi) | 45 to 80 minutes |
| Napa | about 105 km (65 mi) | 75 to 130 minutes |
Those ranges are estimates, not promises. We would rather tell you now that a Friday afternoon drive to wine country can take twice as long as the same drive on a Tuesday morning. A chauffeur who knows the routes will often suggest leaving earlier or later.
SFO to downtown San Francisco
The city leg is the shortest and also the most variable. Highway 101 runs north along the bay to SoMa and the Financial District, and the 280 offers an alternative that is often calmer but adds distance. Event days at the Chase Center or Oracle Park, and large conventions at Moscone Center, can change the pickup logic completely, because streets close and rideshare queues swell.

Hotel arrivals around Union Square are tight. Cable cars, delivery vehicles and one-way streets make the last 200 metres slow. If you tell us your hotel, the chauffeur will know which side of the block to use. For wider context on the city, our San Francisco car service page covers hotels, neighbourhoods and the conference calendar, and San Francisco Travel is the city's official visitor site.
SFO to Silicon Valley: Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Mountain View
For investor and founder trips the Peninsula is the main route. The distances are modest, but the time is not: the 101 and the 280 are both heavily used, and a visit to several campuses in a day is hard to do with rideshare. A chauffeur booked by the hour (see hourly chauffeur) keeps a single car with you from the airport through three meetings and back to the terminal.
Roadshows are a common use. If you are arriving for a week of meetings with several firms, our roadshow car service page describes backup vehicles, confidentiality and multi-city scheduling. Confidentiality is built in: chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request.
SFO to Napa and Sonoma
Wine country is a different kind of trip. The drive crosses the bay, runs through the North Bay towns and ends in a valley with narrow roads and a few bottlenecks. Napa is about 105 km (65 mi) from the airport, and the usual drive is between one and a half and two hours depending on traffic. Visit Napa Valley, the official tourism site, lists the principal towns: Napa, Yountville, St. Helena and Calistoga, all of which we can serve from the airport. See Visit Napa Valley for the full range of lodging and tasting rooms.
A chauffeur makes particular sense for a tasting day. You do not drive after wine, and you keep one vehicle that waits at each stop. We do not promise alcohol on board, and local law applies.
Honest comparison: SFO to downtown by every option
BART is genuinely good. The airport station is in the International Terminal, and a free AirTrain links all terminals to it. According to BART, the ride to downtown San Francisco takes about 30 minutes, and the Yellow and Red lines serve the airport. On weekdays, the first train leaves SFO at 4:58 a.m. and service runs until midnight. Check BART's airport guide for current times, especially on weekends, when the first train leaves later.
| Option | Typical time to Union Square | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| BART with AirTrain | about 30 minutes on the train | Lowest | Solo traveller with one bag, staying near a station |
| Pre-booked chauffeur | 25 to 50 minutes door to door | Fixed fare via booker | Late arrivals, families, luggage, early meetings |
| Rideshare | 30 to 60 minutes plus waiting | Surge-priced | Short notice with light bags |
| Taxi | 25 to 50 minutes | Metered | Spontaneous trips |
| Rental car | Similar, plus parking | Parking in the city is costly | Out-of-town excursions |
If your hotel is a short walk from a BART stop and you are travelling light, take the train. The chauffeur wins when you arrive late, travel as a family, have equipment, or must reach a meeting at a fixed hour.
Vehicles for Bay Area arrivals
| Class | Examples (or similar) | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Executive Sedan | Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6 or Lyriq | 3 passengers; 2 large and 2 cabin bags |
| First Class Sedan | Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series | 3 passengers; 2 large and 2 cabin bags |
| Luxury SUV | Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali | 6 passengers; 5 to 6 large bags, which suits a team with demo equipment |
| Executive Sprinter | Mercedes-Benz Sprinter | 12 passengers; 12 bags, for offsites and delegations |
Conferences, Moscone Center and corporate travel
San Francisco hosts several of the world's largest technology conferences, and hotel clusters near Moscone Center fill quickly. During conference weeks, pickups at the airport peak and traffic downtown slows. Book early, and give the desk the names and arrival times of everyone in the delegation.
For companies, corporate accounts allow monthly invoicing, cost-centre references and bookings by an executive assistant for the principal. Our corporate chauffeur service page explains how invoices and approvals work across cities. For multi-day events, see meetings, incentives and conferences. Large events may have a different cancellation deadline, which is stated on your confirmation.
Waiting time, delays and changes
Every airport pickup includes flight tracking. If the flight is late, the chauffeur adjusts at no cost. After landing, the free wait is 30 minutes on domestic arrivals and 60 minutes on international arrivals; for other pickups it is 15 minutes. The desk is staffed around the clock, so you can change a destination from the kerb.
Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup time. More than 72 hours' notice: no charge. 72 hours or less: 10 percent. 48 hours or less: 50 percent. 24 hours or less, or a no-show: 100 percent.
Child seats, extras and privacy
Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking. Provide ages and weights so the right seat is fitted before pickup. Wi-Fi, water and chargers come with most of our vehicles. If you want privacy, the booking and the name board can use an alias, and we will sign an NDA on request. Enroutz.ca is a chauffeur service and not a security company, so we do not provide armed drivers or bodyguards; we work alongside your own security team.
Connecting through the rest of California and the USA
A Bay Area visit often leads to Los Angeles, Las Vegas or Seattle. Each is a separate local partner, but the booking, invoice and contact stay with the Toronto desk. Compare the Los Angeles airport page, the Seattle airport page and our USA hub. For other gateways see the main airports directory.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a fixed price for an SFO car service?
Yes, once you book. We do not publish rates because the right fare depends on your address, vehicle and time. The online booker quotes the exact all-in fare before you pay, and that fare is fixed after you confirm.
Where is the BART station at SFO?
It is in the International Terminal, and the free AirTrain links all of the terminals to it. BART's official guide says the ride to downtown San Francisco takes about 30 minutes.
How long does it take to drive from SFO to downtown San Francisco?
Downtown is about 20 km (13 mi) away, and the usual drive is 25 to 50 minutes outside peak hours. During conventions, events or commute peaks, allow longer.
Can I book an SFO chauffeur to Silicon Valley?
Yes. Palo Alto is about 40 km (25 mi) from the airport and San Jose about 55 km (34 mi). For several meetings in one day, book an hourly chauffeur and keep the same car throughout.
How far is Napa from SFO?
About 105 km (65 mi), with a typical drive of one and a half to two hours depending on traffic. We recommend a chauffeur for tasting days.
Will the driver wait if my flight is delayed?
Yes. Flights are tracked, and a delay moves the pickup time with no charge. After landing, you have 30 minutes of free waiting on domestic arrivals, or 60 minutes on international arrivals.
Do I clear US customs at SFO if I fly from Toronto?
Normally you clear US border inspection at Pearson before departure and arrive as a domestic passenger. Check your itinerary, especially on connecting trips.
Can I request a child seat?
Yes. Please request it at booking and give the child's age and weight.
Can I book a car for SFO from outside the USA?
Yes. Our Toronto desk takes the booking and invoices you; a licensed local partner delivers the ride. Booker entries work for any pickup worldwide, and the desk confirms a fixed quote.
