Most guests who book a Munich airport chauffeur have just crossed the Atlantic, or the Gulf, and want one thing from the first hour in Germany: a driver who is already there, a car that is already warm or cool, and no queue to think about. This page explains how a pre-booked Munich Airport (MUC) transfer works, where the terminals and pickup points sit, how long the road into Munich really takes, and when the train is the better choice than any car.
How do you book a private chauffeur at Munich Airport?
Enter your flight number and destination in the Enroutz.ca booker and choose a vehicle class. The desk confirms a fixed fare for the exact addresses, assigns a licensed local chauffeur partner, and tracks your flight. Your driver waits at arrivals; the first 60 minutes after an international landing are free.
Enroutz.ca is a Toronto-based chauffeur service. Our own fleet and chauffeurs operate in Toronto, the GTA and Ontario. In Munich the ride is delivered by a vetted, licensed and commercially insured local chauffeur partner, and the Enroutz.ca desk books it, confirms it and invoices it. You deal with one desk, receive one confirmation and one invoice, and have one point of contact around the clock.
The booker is open to any pickup worldwide. Type the airport, your flight number and your hotel or street address, and the exact all-in fare for that vehicle and that route appears before you pay. Nothing is added at the kerb.
Munich Airport chauffeur service: how a pickup runs, step by step
This is the sequence for a Munich arrival.

- Booking. You enter the flight number, passenger count, luggage and destination. The vehicle class is matched to the bags, not just the people.
- Confirmation. The confirmation names the vehicle class ("or similar"), the pickup arrangement and the contact route to the desk. The exact model is confirmed at booking.
- Flight tracking. The desk follows the flight, so an early arrival from a tailwind or a late one from a delayed departure in Toronto does not break the plan.
- Landing. International arrivals get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing. That covers passport control, baggage and customs on a busy morning.
- Meeting. If you add a name-board meet and greet, the chauffeur holds a board inside arrivals. An alias can go on the board when you do not want your name displayed in a public hall.
- Drive. Luggage is loaded, the destination is already known, and the chauffeur drives the route. Wi-Fi, water and phone chargers are in most vehicles.
If you are flying from Toronto, the sequence is the same in reverse on departure day: the Toronto desk can arrange the Pearson leg through Pearson Airport limo service so the same booking relationship carries you from your front door to a Munich hotel.
Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the Munich Airport Center
Munich has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and a covered plaza between them, the Munich Airport Center (MAC). The airport's own route planner lists Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and the MAC as separate destinations, and the airport says Terminal 1 has gained a new pier, which it reports as opening on 21 April 2026 (see the Munich Airport website). Check your boarding pass or the airline confirmation for the terminal, because airlines move between terminals and an old habit is not a reliable guide.

What matters for a chauffeur pickup:
- Arrivals halls. Both terminals have their own arrivals area. Your chauffeur will be told which terminal your flight uses once the desk sees the live flight data.
- The MAC. It is the central landmark between the terminals, a sensible fallback if a plan changes.
- Taxi and transfer areas. The airport's taxi service point page lists taxi ranks in the departure and arrival areas of both terminals, and the airport describes transfer and limousine services separately from taxis (see the airport's taxi page).
- Large baggage. Trolleys and a porter service for heavy luggage are available, according to the airport's arrival page.
How far is Munich Airport from the city, and how long is the drive?
The airport states that it lies about 32 km (20 miles) north-east of Munich, and that driving into the city takes about 45 minutes depending on traffic. That is the right planning figure for a pre-booked car.

Three points sit behind that number. The airport is in the Freising and Erding area, so the run is a motorway-and-city-streets drive rather than a short hop. Commuter windows add time on the final approach to the city. And the destination matters: a hotel near the main station, an office on the east side and a villa near the lakes are three different drives.
Our rule of thumb: allow about 45 minutes for any central Munich address and add buffer for a first appointment. The booker shows the exact fare for your address and vehicle before you confirm.
Munich Airport transfer options compared: S-Bahn, bus, taxi and private chauffeur
The S-Bahn is excellent and the lowest-cost option; the chauffeur wins when you have luggage, a group, an early meeting or a late landing.

| Option | Typical time to central Munich | Cost note | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| S-Bahn (S1 and S8) | About 40 to 45 minutes to the main station | Lowest | Solo travellers with light bags and a hotel near a station |
| Lufthansa Express Bus | About 45 minutes from the central station, about 25 minutes from Schwabing | Low | Guests staying in Schwabing or near the central station |
| Taxi from the rank | About 45 minutes by road | Metered | One or two people with no fixed plan |
| Rideshare | About 45 minutes by road | Variable | Short notice, no luggage constraints |
| Hotel shuttle | Varies by hotel | Often included or fixed by the hotel | Airport hotels and some city hotels |
| Rental car | About 45 minutes by road, plus pickup | Per day plus fuel and parking | Guests driving on to the Alps |
| Private chauffeur | About 45 minutes by road | Fixed fare via booker | Families, groups, luggage, late landings and business arrivals |
The S-Bahn timing comes from the airport's public transport page: the S1 and S8 alternate to give a service every 10 minutes between the airport and the city centre, and the ride to the main station takes about 40 minutes. The airport's own FAQ describes the ride as roughly 45 minutes, so plan on 40 to 45. The Lufthansa Express Bus runs every 20 minutes, 365 days a year, with stops at Terminal 2 and Terminal 1. Details are on the airport's public transport page.
Our view: if you are travelling alone with one cabin bag to a hotel next to the Hauptbahnhof, take the S-Bahn and keep the money. A chauffeur is the better choice when the first thing on your calendar is a meeting at 9:00, when children and car seats are involved, when you land at night, or when the final address is not near an S-Bahn stop.
Flying from Toronto to Munich: what the arrival day looks like
For travellers flying from Toronto to Munich the pattern is usually an overnight flight that lands in the morning, six hours ahead of Toronto time for most of the year (five for a short stretch each spring and autumn when the two continents change clocks on different dates). Your body will think it is the middle of the night while the hotel's check-in time is hours away.
That affects the transfer more than people expect:
- Early check-in is not guaranteed. Ask the hotel in advance. If the room is not ready, the chauffeur can take you to breakfast or a meeting instead of the front desk.
- Jet lag and driving. Many guests prefer not to collect a rental car straight off a long flight. A chauffeur turns the first drive into rest time.
Vehicle classes for Munich airport transfers
Vehicle names below are "or similar", and the exact model is confirmed at booking.
- Executive Sedan (Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Cadillac CT6 or Lyriq or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- First Class Sedan (Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series or similar): up to 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 cabin bags.
- Luxury SUV (Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon Denali or similar): up to 6 passengers, 5 to 6 large bags.
- Executive Sprinter (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter): up to 12 passengers, 12 bags.
- Mini-coach and coach, 20 to 56 seats, on request.
- Maybach, Rolls-Royce, stretch limousine and armoured vehicles, on request, with availability confirmed at booking.

Munich Airport to the Alps, the lakes and Austria
Munich is the nearest major airport for a large part of Bavaria and for the Austrian border region, and it is where many guests begin a drive to the mountains. The distances below are approximate road figures and depend on weather and season; the desk confirms the exact route and time when you book.
- Garmisch-Partenkirchen: about 120 km, usually under two hours outside winter peaks.
- Salzburg, Austria: about 150 km, roughly one hour and 45 minutes. See the border note below.
- Tegernsee: roughly 80 km, a resort lake south of Munich.
- Innsbruck, Austria: about 190 km, often two hours or more.
A transfer into Austria crosses the Schengen internal border, where checks may be reinstated at short notice. Carry your passport on any such trip. The Government of Canada notes that countries in the Schengen area may temporarily reintroduce controls at internal borders (see travel.gc.ca for Germany).
In winter, mountain drives take longer and the car matters more. Tell the desk if you are heading to a ski area so the vehicle, luggage space and timing fit.

Meet and greet, flight tracking and waiting time at MUC
Flight tracking is included on every airport pickup. You do not need to phone the desk if your flight is late; it already knows.
Waiting time follows the arrival type: 60 minutes free after landing on international arrivals, 30 minutes on domestic arrivals and 15 minutes on other pickups. Most Munich guests arrive internationally, so the 60-minute rule applies. If you will be longer, such as a customs inspection of trade samples, tell the desk early.
For the name-board meet and greet, the chauffeur stands inside arrivals with a board showing your name or an alias. Choose an alias if you are a public figure or travelling for a confidential meeting. Chauffeurs do not photograph clients or post about trips, and NDAs are signed on request. See meet and greet service for the full detail.
Business travel, trade fairs and groups
Munich is a major trade-fair and corporate city. Whether you are arriving for an exhibition or a board meeting, the practical issues are the same: several people landing on different flights, a tight morning, a late return to the airport.
- Several flights, one booking. Each passenger can be tracked on their own flight, and the desk can combine arrivals into one vehicle when timing allows.
- Invoicing. Corporate accounts with monthly invoicing are available; see corporate accounts and corporate chauffeur service.
- Group arrivals. For delegations, the Executive Sprinter, mini-coach and coach classes are available on request through group transportation.
- Event programmes. See event transportation and trade show transportation.
Oktoberfest usually runs for around two weeks from mid- to late September into early October; book transfers early for that period.
Leaving Munich: airport drop-off and timing
For a departure, the chauffeur collects you at the hotel at an agreed time and drives to the correct terminal. A good rule is to be at the airport well ahead of an international flight, and earlier still on busy mornings. The airport's own guidance gives recommended check-in times for each flight, so check your airline's advice and ask the desk to schedule the pickup accordingly.
If your next stop is Toronto, the Toronto desk can book your return transfer from Pearson at the same time. See Pearson airport limo or Toronto airport transfer.
Entry rules for Canadians and other travellers arriving in Germany
Canadian citizens do not need a visa for tourist or business stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen area, and a regular Canadian passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the planned departure from the Schengen area, according to the Government of Canada. The same page says the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) was not yet open for applications at its last update, and that you should apply only through the official EU website once it opens. Rules for other nationalities differ; check your own government's guidance before you fly.
The Entry/Exit System records facial image and fingerprints at Schengen borders for non-EU travellers, and no action is needed before travel. Allow extra time at passport control. Because the status of these systems changes, read the official source, travel.gc.ca for Germany, the week before you fly.

Frequently asked questions
How far is Munich Airport from the city centre?
The airport says it is about 32 km (20 miles) north-east of Munich. Driving takes about 45 minutes depending on traffic, and the S-Bahn takes roughly 40 to 45 minutes to the main station.
Is there a train from Munich Airport to the city?
Yes. The S1 and S8 S-Bahn lines run from the airport, alternating so that a train leaves about every 10 minutes. The ride to the main station takes about 40 minutes according to the airport. It is the lowest-cost option and a good choice if you travel light.
How much does a Munich airport chauffeur cost?
The fare depends on your exact addresses, the vehicle class and the time. The online booker shows the exact all-in fare before you confirm, so there is nothing to negotiate at the kerb.
Which terminal will my chauffeur meet me at?
Munich has Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Your airline confirmation shows the terminal; the desk checks live flight data and confirms the meeting arrangement before you land.
How long will the chauffeur wait if my flight is late?
Flight tracking is included, so a late flight changes the pickup time automatically. On international arrivals the first 60 minutes after landing are free waiting time; on domestic arrivals it is 30 minutes.
Can a chauffeur take me from Munich Airport to Salzburg or the Alps?
Yes. Salzburg is about 150 km and Garmisch-Partenkirchen about 120 km, and both can be booked as a single transfer. Road time depends on weather and season, and the desk confirms it at booking. Carry your passport for the Austrian border.
Do you provide child seats?
Child, toddler and booster seats are available on request at booking. Tell the desk the ages or weights when you reserve so the right seat is in the car.
What if I need a larger vehicle for a group?
The Luxury SUV takes up to 6 passengers, the Executive Sprinter up to 12, and mini-coaches and coaches from 20 to 56 seats are available on request. See group transportation for event and delegation logistics.
Do Canadians need a visa for Germany?
Canadians do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen area, but the passport must be valid for at least three months after departure. Check travel.gc.ca for the latest ETIAS and Entry/Exit System status before you travel.
